About the Lantronix LM4
IDF networking closets have often gone without out-of-band management because they are too numerous, or too costly per site, for a data-center console server. The LM4 (also written LM-4) targets that gap. It gives access, monitoring and control of switches, routers and other gear over serial consoles whether the production network is up or down, in a 1.75 in. tall chassis only 6.25 in. wide and deep.
The LM4 manages up to four devices directly over RS-232 and supports up to 48 virtual ports. Connectivity includes a 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet interface, a 1 Gbps SFP port, an RS-232 console port and two USB-A ports. A 16GB eMMC drive supports TCG Opal 2.0 and 256-bit AES encryption. Power is 9 to 60 VDC at under 24 W, supplied by an included 12 VDC external adapter, and the operating range is 0 to 55 C.
Like the larger LM-Series console servers, the LM4 runs LMOS software with enterprise-grade automation, cybersecurity and compliance functions, including ROMmon recovery, configuration rollback, network automation tools, zero-touch deployment and virtual serial console ports. Engineers manage it through the CLI or the Lantronix Control Center, which automates actions across LM-Series fleets without scripting.

- A 10/100/1000BASE-T port and a 1 Gbps SFP port give the console server a copper or fiber path back to the management network.
- Encrypted local storage
- 16GB of eMMC flash supporting TCG Opal 2.0 and 256-bit AES encryption keeps data stored on the console server encrypted.
- Wide DC power input
- The 9 to 60 VDC input draws under 24 W and runs from the supplied 12 VDC adapter or from DC power already in the closet.
How to choose the right LM4 part number
LM4 part numbers combine serial port count and power cord region. LM4-2S models have two RS-232 ports and LM4-4S models have four; all include two Ethernet ports (copper and SFP) and LMS. The suffix sets the power cord and adapter plug: -NA for North America, -UK for the United Kingdom and -EU for Europe, for example LM4-4S-NA or LM4-2S-EU. The 61-5900-00 single port license is an additional port license activated after device purchase. USB-LCDA, USB-CAA and the 61-5010-01 temperature/humidity sensor are optional accessories.

What is the difference between LM4-2S and LM4-4S models?
LM4-2S models have two serial console ports and LM4-4S models have four. Both have a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port, a 1 Gbps SFP port, 16GB of encrypted eMMC storage and include LMS. The -NA, -UK and -EU suffixes set the power cord and adapter region.
