Overview
About the Lantronix SM24TBT4SA
The SM24TBT4SA (ordered as SM24TBT4SA-xx, where xx is the power-cord region) is a Layer 2 managed Gigabit Ethernet switch that powers and connects IP cameras, wireless access points and other powered devices from one 1U chassis. It provides 24 10/100/1000BASE-T ports plus four combo 100/1000 RJ-45/SFP ports. Ports 1-16 deliver PoE/PoE+ and ports 17-24 add 802.3bt PoE++ at up to 90 W per port, so heavy loads such as PTZ cameras can share a switch with standard PoE devices.
The 740 W PoE budget is backed by PoE scheduling, per-port configuration, Auto Power Reset that reboots a device that stops answering ICMP, and Always on PoE, which keeps devices powered through a switch reboot or firmware upgrade. Extended Mode PoE reaches up to 250 meters at 10 Mbps. Switching capacity is 56 Gbps (41.7 Mpps) with an 8K MAC table and 9216-byte jumbo frames. Layer 2 features include MSTP/RSTP, LACP, 4K VLANs including voice and MAC-based VLANs, IGMP snooping for 512 groups, 802.1X, 384-entry ACLs and eight QoS queues.
Management is via web GUI, CLI, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and RMON, with dual firmware images. The Device Management System adds topology, floor and Google Maps views plus remote cable diagnostics, and the switch integrates with the Lantronix Percepxion cloud platform. It operates from -10°C to +50°C.
Key capabilities
- Eight 90 W PoE++ ports
- Ports 17-24 support IEEE 802.3bt at up to 90 W per port, while ports 1-16 supply 802.3af/at PoE and PoE+.
- 740 W total budget
- A 740 W PoE budget from the internal 100-240 VAC supply covers a mix of PoE+ cameras and high-power PoE++ devices.
- 250 m Extended Mode PoE
- Extended Mode PoE pushes power and data beyond the 100-meter limit, up to 250 meters at 10 Mbps, for distant cameras.
- Always on PoE
- Powered devices stay up during a switch reboot or firmware upgrade, and Auto Power Reset reboots devices that stop responding to ICMP.
- Visual device management
- DMS builds topology, floor plan and Google Maps views of attached devices and runs remote copper cable diagnostics to locate opens and shorts.
- Dual firmware images
- Independent primary and secondary images provide a fallback while upgrading, with HTTP/HTTPS and TFTP firmware updates.
How to choose the right SM24TBT4SA part number
Every SM24TBT4SA part number is the same switch: 24 Gigabit ports (16 PoE+, 8 PoE++), four combo RJ-45/SFP ports, 740 W budget and 19-inch rack brackets. Only the suffix changes, and it identifies the AC power cord in the box: -NA North America, -LA Latin America, -EU Europe, -UK United Kingdom, -SA, -JP Japan, -OZ Australia/NZ and -BR Brazil. Order SM24TBT4SA-NA for US and Canadian sites or SM24TBT4SA-EU for continental Europe.

SM24TBT4SA FAQ
How many PoE++ ports does the SM24TBT4SA have?
Eight. Ports 17-24 support PoE, PoE+ and 802.3bt PoE++ at up to 90 W per port. Ports 1-16 support PoE and PoE+. The total PoE budget is 740 W.
Can the SM24TBT4SA power a camera more than 100 meters away?
Yes. Extended Mode PoE supports runs beyond the 100-meter Ethernet limit, covering up to 250 meters at 10 Mbps. Use it for cameras at the end of long cable runs where low data rates are acceptable.
What uplink ports does the SM24TBT4SA have?
Four combo 100/1000 ports that accept either an RJ-45 copper connection or an SFP module, in addition to the 24 10/100/1000BASE-T access ports. SFP modules allow a fiber link back to the core or NVR room.
Is the SM24TBT4SA a Layer 2 or Layer 3 switch?
It is a Layer 2 managed switch with STP/RSTP/MSTP, LACP, 4K VLANs, IGMP and MLD snooping, 802.1X, DHCP relay and server, ACLs and QoS. Management is via web, CLI, SSH and SNMP.
What is the operating temperature of the SM24TBT4SA?
-10°C to +50°C operating with 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, and -20°C to +70°C in storage. It can be rack mounted or used on a desktop.
