Overview
About the Lantronix SM24TBT4XPA
The SM24TBT4XPA (also listed as SM24TBT4XPA-NA and other regional SKUs) powers and connects high-draw edge devices such as IP cameras and multi-gig wireless access points from one rack-mount box. It combines twelve 10/100/1000Base-T ports, twelve 100M/1G/2.5GBase-T ports and four 10G SFP+ uplinks, so 2.5G access points can run above gigabit speed while the switch backhauls over fiber at 10G.
PoE follows IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt. Ports 1 to 12 deliver PoE/PoE+, ports 13 to 24 add PoE++ at up to 90 W per port, and the total budget is 740 W. Always on PoE keeps cameras and access points powered through a switch reboot or firmware upgrade, and Auto Power Reset reboots a powered device that stops answering ICMP. Switching capacity is 164 Gbps with 122 Mpps forwarding, a 32K MAC table and 14,000-byte jumbo frames. IEEE 1588v2 PTP carries both frequency and time.
Management covers the usual Layer 2 toolkit: STP, RSTP and MSTP, LACP, up to 4K VLANs, IGMP and MLD snooping, 802.1X, RADIUS/TACACS+, 384-entry ACLs and SNMP v1/v2c/v3. The built-in Device Management System draws topology, floor and Google Maps views of attached devices, and the switch integrates with the Lantronix Percepxion cloud platform.
Key capabilities
- 740 W PoE++ budget
- Twelve ports support 802.3bt PoE++ at up to 90 W each, enough for high-draw cameras, wireless access points and other IP devices on a single cable.
- Twelve 2.5G copper ports
- 100M/1G/2.5GBase-T ports carry multi-gig access point traffic over existing copper cabling instead of capping it at 1 Gbps.
- Four 10G SFP+ uplinks
- Fiber uplinks aggregate the 24 access ports into the core, backed by 164 Gbps switching capacity and 122 Mpps forwarding.
- Always on PoE
- Powered devices stay up during a switch reboot or firmware upgrade, so cameras keep recording and access points keep serving clients.
- IEEE 1588v2 PTP
- Precision Time Protocol transports frequency and time across the network for applications that need synchronized clocks.
- Visual device management
- Topology, floor plan and Google Maps views show every attached PD, and remote cable diagnostics locate opens and shorts by distance.
How to choose the right SM24TBT4XPA part number
Every SM24TBT4XPA part number is the same switch with 19-inch rackmount brackets; the suffix only selects the AC power cord. Choose -NA for North America, -LA for Latin America, -EU for Europe, -UK for the United Kingdom, -SA for South America (as Lantronix's description states), -JP for Japan, -OZ for Australia and -BR for Brazil. SFP+ optics for the four 10G uplinks are ordered separately; see the compatible SFP modules below.

SM24TBT4XPA FAQ
Which SM24TBT4XPA ports support PoE++ (802.3bt)?
Ports 13 to 24 support PoE, PoE+ and PoE++, with up to 90 W per port. Ports 1 to 12 support PoE and PoE+. The switch has a 740 W total PoE budget shared across all powered ports.
Does the SM24TBT4XPA have 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports?
Yes. Twelve RJ-45 ports run at 100M, 1G or 2.5G, and the other twelve are 10/100/1000Base-T. Four SFP+ slots provide 10G fiber uplinks. All copper ports support Auto MDI/MDIX.
Is the SM24TBT4XPA a Layer 2 or Layer 3 switch?
It is a managed Layer 2 switch with STP/RSTP/MSTP, LACP, up to 4K VLANs including Q-in-Q and voice VLAN, IGMP snooping and querier, DHCP relay with Option 82, and DHCP server, plus web GUI, CLI, SSH and SNMP management.
What is the operating temperature of the SM24TBT4XPA?
The switch operates from 0°C to +45°C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, and stores from -20°C to +70°C. It accepts 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz and mounts in a rack or on a desktop.
What happens to PoE power when the switch reboots?
With Always on PoE, attached powered devices keep receiving power during a switch reboot or firmware upgrade. Dual firmware images also let the switch keep a backup image while you upgrade.
