Overview
About the Lantronix SM8TBT2SA
The SM8TBT2SA (often searched as SM8TBT2SA-NA, its North American cord version) puts eight 10/100/1000BASE-T PoE ports and two combo 100/1000 RJ-45/SFP uplinks in a 220 mm wide chassis that sits on a desk or mounts in a 19-inch rack with the included brackets. It is built for edge sites that need a handful of powered devices, such as IP cameras, wireless access points or building controllers, without the footprint of a 24-port switch. Lantronix lists it as a new product.
Ports 1-4 deliver PoE/PoE+ and ports 5-8 deliver PoE/PoE+/PoE++ from a 240 W budget, with up to 90 W per port on the 802.3bt ports. Always on PoE keeps devices powered through a switch reboot or firmware upgrade, Auto Power Reset reboots a device that stops answering ICMP, and Extended Mode PoE reaches up to 250 meters at 10 Mbps. Switching capacity is 20 Gbps with an 8K MAC table and 9216-byte jumbo frames.
Layer 2 features cover STP/RSTP/MSTP, LACP, up to 4K VLANs, IGMP snooping with MVR, 802.1X, ACLs and eight QoS queues. The built-in Device Management System adds topology, floor and Google Maps views plus remote cable diagnostics that locate opens and shorts. The switch can be managed from the local web GUI or from Lantronix's Percepxion cloud platform.
Key capabilities
- Four 90 W PoE++ ports
- Ports 5-8 support IEEE 802.3bt at up to 90 W each, while ports 1-4 handle 802.3af/at devices, all from a 240 W budget.
- Always on PoE
- Attached cameras and access points keep their power while the switch reboots or installs a firmware upgrade.
- 250 m Extended Mode PoE
- Extended mode pushes power and data past the 100-meter Ethernet limit to 250 meters at 10 Mbps for distant cameras.
- Auto Power Reset
- The switch pings each powered device and power-cycles it automatically when ICMP responses stop, avoiding a site visit for a hung device.
- Compact desktop or rack
- The 8.7 x 1.7 x 9.5 inch, 4.4 lb chassis ships with 19-inch rackmount brackets and also works as a desktop unit.
How to choose the right SM8TBT2SA part number
Every SM8TBT2SA part number is the same switch: eight Gigabit PoE ports (four PoE+, four PoE++), two combo RJ-45/SFP ports and 19-inch rackmount brackets. The suffix only selects the AC power cord: SM8TBT2SA-NA for North America, -LA Latin America, -EU Europe, -UK United Kingdom, -SA South America, -JP Japan, -OZ Australia and -BR Brazil. SFP modules for the combo ports are ordered separately.

SM8TBT2SA FAQ
What is the PoE budget of the SM8TBT2SA?
240 W across eight PoE ports. Ports 1-4 support PoE and PoE+ (802.3af/at), and ports 5-8 add PoE++ (802.3bt) at up to 90 W per port. Plan high-draw devices on ports 5-8 and keep their combined load inside the 240 W budget.
How does the SM8TBT2SA relate to the SM24TBT4SA?
They are documented together: Lantronix publishes one product brief, install guide, web user guide and CLI reference for both. The SM8TBT2SA is the 8-port member, with four PoE+ and four PoE++ ports, two combo RJ-45/SFP uplinks and a 240 W PoE budget.
Does the SM8TBT2SA support fiber uplinks?
Yes. It has two combo 100/1000 ports, each usable as an RJ-45 copper port or an SFP slot. SFP modules are listed as compatible accessories and are not included in the part number.
What is the SM8TBT2SA operating temperature?
Lantronix rates the SM8TBT2SA for -10°C to +50°C operation at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, and -20°C to +70°C in storage. It runs from 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz and is certified CE, FCC Part 15 Class A and UL.
How is the SM8TBT2SA managed?
Through the local web GUI, CLI over Telnet or SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, or Lantronix Percepxion. The embedded Device Management System adds topology, floor and map views, and the switch supports RMON, LLDP-MED, syslog, NTP and dual firmware images.
