Overview
About the Lantronix xPico 110
The xPico 110 (also written xPico110, with XPC100 part numbers) lets OEMs network-enable industrial machines, access control panels, renewable energy equipment and building automation controllers with minimal engineering effort. The host microcontroller talks to it over a UART, while the module runs a hardened, completely offloaded TCP/IP stack and network services. Lantronix lists the xPico 110 as In Production-NRFND: it is still produced but not recommended for new designs.
Two 3.3 V CMOS UARTs (5 V tolerant) run from 300 bps to 921 kbps, with RTS/CTS and DTR/DCD on port 1. An on-module 10/100 PHY simplifies board integration, and designs can add PoE or use different Ethernet connector types. TruPort Serial technology passes Modbus and hundreds of other fieldbus and proprietary serial protocols through TCP or UDP in client, server or multi-host modes. NIST-certified AES (FIPS-197) encrypts sessions at 128, 192 or 256 bits.
Configuration uses the serial port, Telnet, the internal web server, SNMP or a Windows-based utility, and the Lantronix Device Discovery Protocol locates modules on the network. Firmware updates over TFTP or the serial port, and 384 KB of flash is reserved for custom web pages. SMTP alerts can trigger on GPIO changes or serial data streams.
Key capabilities
- Fully offloaded TCP/IP stack
- The module handles TCP/IP and network services itself, so the host MCU only exchanges serial data and needs no networking firmware.
- Compact SMT footprint
- At 18.3 x 31.1 x 3.0 mm with an on-module 10/100 PHY, the xPico 110 fits small host boards and leaves the Ethernet connector choice to the designer.
- 256-bit AES encryption
- NIST-certified AES (FIPS-197) at 128, 192 or 256 bits protects TruPort Serial sessions between the device and remote applications.
- Industrial temperature range
- The module operates and stores from -40 to +85 C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, drawing about 240 mA at 3.3 VDC.
- Modbus gateway variant
- XPC10020MB-01 is the Modbus gateway variant of the module, for connecting Modbus serial equipment to Ethernet networks through the same 3.3 V UART interface.
How to choose the right xPico 110 part number
XPC100200B-01 is the standard AES module on tape and reel of 250 for production assembly, with 16 programmable I/O pins. XPC100200S-01 is the same AES module in a 10-unit sample pack for prototypes. XPC10020MB-01 is the Modbus gateway variant, also on 250-unit tape and reel, with 8 programmable I/O pins instead of 16. XPC100200K-02 is the evaluation kit for testing the module and firmware before committing a board design.

xPico 110 FAQ
Is the xPico 110 recommended for new designs?
Lantronix lists the xPico 110 as In Production-NRFND, meaning it is still in production but not recommended for new designs. It remains orderable in tape and reel, sample pack, Modbus and evaluation kit versions for existing products.
What is the difference between XPC100200B-01 and XPC10020MB-01?
XPC100200B-01 is the standard AES wired device server module with 16 programmable I/O pins. XPC10020MB-01 is the Modbus gateway variant with 8 programmable I/O pins. Both ship on 250-unit tape and reels and share the same 18.3 x 31.1 mm footprint.
What serial interfaces does the xPico 110 provide?
It provides two UART ports at 3.3 V CMOS levels, 5 V tolerant, at 300 bps to 921 kbps. Data bits are 7 or 8, stop bits 1 or 2, and parity odd, even or none. Port 1 adds DTR/DCD and RTS/CTS control signals.
What power does the xPico 110 module require?
The module runs from a 3.3 VDC input and draws 240 mA typical with a 100BASE-T link and the 120 MHz CPU. It is built on a 16-bit x86 DSTni-EX processor with 256 KB SRAM and 512 KB flash.
