The Lantronix EMG 7500 is the compact edge management gateway in Lantronix's EMG family. It is aimed at branch offices, retail stores and unmanned locations such as ATMs and cell towers. The EMG751201S uses a mixed I/O configuration with 4 RJ45 RS-232 serial device ports and 4 USB Type A device ports. Many newer switches, routers and firewalls expose USB console ports alongside or instead of RJ45 serial, and this configuration handles both types from one 163 x 145 x 43 mm chassis. It also includes 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, an RJ45 console port, a USB Type A host port for logging and a microSD slot. The internal LTE radio provides the out-of-band path. When the primary connection is congested or unresponsive, the gateway fails over to 4G/LTE automatically and fails back when the primary link recovers. Lantronix states all global carriers are supported, with Private APN, VPN access and public or private IP addressing. Cisco-compatible IP SLA traffic monitors network performance to help avoid lights-out scenarios. Access control includes TLS v1 through v1.3, a packet-filtering firewall, per-port user permissions, and LDAP/AD, RADIUS, Kerberos, TACACS+ or NIS authentication. Cryptography is FIPS 140-2 compliant (Certificate #2398). Each port buffers 256 KB and can log to local files, syslog, USB, SD card or NFS, with email, SNMP or syslog event notifications. The gateway works with Lantronix Percepxion for Networking for centralized monitoring, zero-touch provisioning and iOS and Android app access. Secure REST APIs and Python scripting support automation. It ships with a desktop power supply, also accepts an external 9-30 VDC feed, and uses 20 W. The product brief, quick start guide and user guide are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose the serial plus USB configuration?▾

Many network devices provide USB console ports alongside or instead of RJ45 serial. The EMG751201S has 4 RJ45 RS-232 ports and 4 USB Type A device ports, so one gateway can reach both types.

What speeds do the RS-232 ports support?▾

The RJ45 RS-232 device ports run from 300 to 921600 bps and have software-programmable reversible pinouts.

How does the LTE out-of-band connection work?▾

The internal LTE radio, with a microSIM slot, takes over automatically when the primary connection is congested or unresponsive and fails back when it recovers. Private APN, VPN and public or private IP addressing are supported.

What are the operating conditions?▾

The EMG 7500 operates from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at 30 to 90% relative humidity, non-condensing.

What documentation is available?▾

Lantronix provides the EMG 7500 product brief, the EMG7500 quick start guide and the EMG user guide.
