About the Lantronix FOX Series for Critical Asset Monitoring
The FOX Series for Critical Asset Monitoring (FOX3 and FOX4, also written FOX 3 and FOX 4) puts a cellular edge gateway next to equipment that has no reliable network of its own: backup generators, HVAC plant and boilers, fuel and tank level systems and air compressors. It reads machine data over Modbus, BACnet, RS-232/485, CAN and analog/digital I/O, applies local logic and reports alarms and trends to the cloud, cutting site visits and catching faults before they cause downtime.
All five gateway part numbers in this family include one RS-232 and one RS-485 port, three user-configurable digital/analog I/Os, a predefined ignition input, I2C, 1-Wire and an internal backup battery. Cellular is 4G LTE-M/NB-IoT or LTE Cat-1, with 2G fallback on several regional models. Inputs run from 10.8 to 60 VDC, idle draw is under 1 mA at 12 VDC in sleep, and the operating range is -40°C to +85°C.
Edge automation runs in PFAL or LUA scripts, so control logic keeps working when the cellular link is down. Data leaves over MQTTS with TLS 1.3 to any cloud, and Lantronix Percepxion handles zero-touch provisioning, health monitoring and API integration across large deployments. FOX4 models add BLE 5.2 for wireless sensors, Wi-Fi 4, secure boot and an ATEC608 secure element.
