Overview
About the Lantronix M110 Series
The M110 Series (also written M-110) adds cellular connectivity to equipment that only speaks serial. An RS-232 port on a 9-pin sub-D connector and a USB 2.0 Type-C port connect to the host device, and the modem carries its data over LTE to a control server. Typical hosts are electricity meters, PLCs, lifts and vending machines, including retrofits where the existing equipment expects a dial-up modem.
Two radios are available: dual-mode LTE-M1/NB-IoT on the M113 and LTE Cat-1 bis on the M114B, each through an SMA antenna connector. The brushed aluminum housing measures 60 x 66 x 21.7 mm and weighs about 95 g. Power input is 8-32 VDC with slow start, operating temperature is -30°C to +70°C, and two I/O lines are each configurable as a 0-48 VDC, 12-bit analog input or an open-collector digital output.
Lantronix quotes idle consumption as low as 21 mA, enough for up to a month of autonomy on battery or solar when the modem wakes only to communicate. The mPack software provides automatic TCP dial-up, permanent TCP/UDP client or server, on-demand client mode, two sockets for failover and a connectivity watchdog. The M114B also integrates with Percepxion for remote configuration, console, telemetry and tunneling.
Key capabilities
- Serial-to-cellular retrofit
- Automatic TCP dial-up lets legacy serial equipment that expects a modem connection reach a server over LTE without changes to the host.
- Low idle power
- Worst-case idle draw is 0.15 W on the M114B and 1.1 W on the M113, and Lantronix quotes up to a month of autonomy on battery.
- -30°C to +70°C rating
- The aluminum-cased modem operates from -30°C to +70°C at up to 95% RH and stores from -40°C to +85°C.
- Analog or digital I/O
- Two I/O lines each work as a 0-48 VDC analog input with 12-bit resolution or a 200 mA open-collector digital output.
- Optional RS-485
- The SC485 Snap Cap converts the RS-232 port into an isolated half- or full-duplex RS-485 port with cable runs up to 1.5 km.
How to choose the right M110 Series part number
Choose by radio and fallback. M113F002S is the M113 LTE-M rest-of-world model with 2G fallback; M113F00FS is the M113 global model on the same LTE-M bands without fallback. M114B00FS is the LTE Cat-1 bis model with 2G fallback, a wider band list including B2, B5, B7, B66 and TDD bands B38/B40/B41, the lowest power draw and Percepxion support. Add the MF18 bundle (power cord, USB cord, antenna, DIN-rail clip), a regional P24E power adapter if needed, and the SC485 for RS-485.

M110 Series FAQ
What is the difference between the M113 and M114B modems?
The M113 uses dual-mode LTE-M1/NB-IoT; the M114B uses LTE Cat-1 bis with a wider band list. The M114B draws far less power, 0.15 W idle versus 1.1 W worst case, and is the only M110 model that works with Lantronix Percepxion.
Which M113 part number should I choose, F002S or F00FS?
Both use the same LTE-M bands: B1, B3, B4, B8, B12, B13, B20, B25, B26 and B28. M113F002S is the rest-of-world version with 2G fallback. M113F00FS is the global version without 2G fallback.
What interfaces does the M110 modem have?
A full RS-232 port on a 9-pin sub-D connector, a USB 2.0 Type-C port, two configurable analog-input or digital-output I/O lines and an SMA antenna connector. RS-485 is available through the optional SC485 Snap Cap.
What power does the M110 Series need?
8-32 VDC with slow start, through a 4-pin Micro-Fit 3.0 header. Lantronix offers 12 V, 1.25 A adapters with regional plugs: P24E2 USA, P24E4 UK/HK, P24E3 Australia/NZ, P24E1 Japan and P24E0 Euro.
Does the M110 support NB-IoT?
Yes, on the M113, which is a dual-mode LTE-M1/NB-IoT modem with an SMA antenna connector. The M114B uses LTE Cat-1 bis instead. Check carrier support for LTE-M or NB-IoT in your deployment region before choosing between them.
