The S3230 Series is a stand-alone multi-service Network Interface Device for providers that must prove SLAs, adding IEEE 802.1ag Service OAM and ITU Y.1731 performance monitoring to Gigabit copper-to-fiber demarcation.

About the Lantronix S3230 Series
The S3230 (Lantronix ION S3230) sits at the customer handoff of a business Ethernet or mobile backhaul circuit and gives the provider end-to-end visibility of the service, not just the physical link. Where Link OAM only checks a single fiber span, IEEE 802.1ag Service OAM and ITU Y.1731 measure connectivity and performance across the whole Ethernet service, which is what SLA reporting and advanced fault management require.
It also carries the full managed NID toolkit: MEF 9, 14 and 21 certification, IEEE 802.3ah Link OAM, remote loopback, Far-End-Fault, 802.1Q VLANs with double tagging across 4096 VIDs, 802.1p, DiffServ and IPv6 traffic class QoS, bandwidth profiling and 10,240-byte frames. The fiber side uses empty 100/1000Base-X SFP slots, and DMI optical management reads SFP diagnostics.
The S3230 is managed on its own IP address or in-band over the fiber from a C3230 card in a managed ION chassis. Interfaces include web, CLI, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Focal Point and USB for initial setup. The 82 x 165 x 25 mm unit runs from 100-240 VAC and operates from 0°C to 50°C.

How to choose the right S3230 Series part number
Both S3230 models have one 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 port and use empty 100/1000Base-X SFP slots on the fiber side, so reach and fiber type depend on the SFP you install. S3230-1040 has one SFP slot for a single fiber uplink. S3231-1040 has two SFP slots for a second fiber connection. Order SFP modules separately, and mount the unit with a WMBL wall bracket or in the RMS19-SA4-02 4-slot rack shelf.
