About the Lantronix M/GE-T Series
The M/GE-T Series (also written MGE-T) converts a 1000Base-T copper Ethernet link to Gigabit fiber, extending the reach of a switch or NIC port well past the 100 m copper limit. Lantronix describes the housing as 65% smaller than a standard media converter: it measures 46 x 85 x 22 mm, which makes it easy to tuck behind a desktop, into a ceiling space or into a wiring closet as a fiber-to-the-desk endpoint.
The copper side supports auto-negotiation and auto-MDI/MDIX. Fiber options are 1000Base-SX at 850 nm over multimode, reaching 220 m on 62.5/125 µm and 550 m on 50/125 µm fiber, or 1000Base-LX at 1310 nm over single-mode to 10 km. The M/GE-T-SFP-01 leaves the fiber port as an empty SFP slot. All models support jumbo frames up to 13,312 bytes, automatic link restoration and fiber link pass-through, and comply with IEEE 802.3z and 802.3ab.
Units run from an external +12 VDC, 0.5 A supply (7.5 to 13.9 VDC input range) and draw 2.6 W, operating from 0 °C to 50 °C. Wall-mount (WMBM) and DIN-rail (DRBM) brackets fit all mini converters, and the M-MCR-01 18-slot powered chassis consolidates many units into a 19-inch rack.

How far can the M/GE-T Series transmit over fiber?
The SX models reach 220 m over 62.5/125 µm and 550 m over 50/125 µm multimode fiber. The M/GE-T-LX-01 reaches 10 km over single-mode fiber at 1310 nm. The copper RJ-45 side supports 100 m. With the SFP model, distance depends on the module installed.
What is the difference between M/GE-T-SX-01 and M/GE-T-SX-01(LC)?
Both are 1000Base-SX 850 nm multimode converters with the same distances. The standard SX-01 models use SC connectors with a 7.0 dB link budget and a regional power supply suffix, while the (LC) version uses LC connectors with an 8.5 dB link budget.
Does the M/GE-T-SFP-01 include an SFP module?
No. The M/GE-T-SFP-01 is a 1000Base-T to SFP converter with an empty slot. You choose and install a Gigabit SFP module separately, which sets the fiber type, wavelength and distance.
What power does the M/GE-T converter need?
It requires an external AC/DC supply providing +12 VDC at 0.5 A, and accepts 7.5 to 13.9 VDC at the input. Power consumption is 2.6 W. The regional suffix on SX models (such as -NA or -EU) identifies the included supply.
