About the Lantronix M/GE-PSW Series
The M/GE-PSW Series (also written MGE-PSW) extends Gigabit Ethernet over fiber from a 46 x 85 x 22 mm housing small enough to sit behind a desktop PC, inside a cabinet or on a wall. It is a common building block for fiber-to-the-desk, where each workstation needs its own fiber drop, and for linking existing 10/100 Mbps equipment to a 1000 Mbps fiber network.
Fixed-optic models cover 1000Base-SX at 850 nm over multimode, 220 m on 62.5/125 µm or 550 m on 50/125 µm, with ST, SC or LC connectors, and 1000Base-LX at 1310 nm over single-mode SC to 10 km. The M/GE-PSW-SFP-01 leaves the slot empty for a 100 or 1000Base-X SFP. Features include auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX on copper, fixed full-duplex on fiber, Active Link Pass Through, Automatic Link Restoration and jumbo frames up to 10,240 bytes.
The converters accept 4.5 to 28 VDC from a 12 VDC, 400 mA wall adapter or, with the USBC-AM-DC cable, from a USB port, and draw 3.15 W. Operating range is 0°C to 50°C. For higher densities, the M-MCR-01 chassis holds 18 non-hardened mini converters in a 19-inch rack.

M/GE-PSW-SX-01 (SC), M/GE-PSW-SX-01(ST) and M/GE-PSW-SX-01(LC) are 850 nm multimode, 220 m on 62.5/125 µm or 550 m on 50/125 µm, 7.0 dB link budget. Can the M/GE-PSW media converter be powered by USB?
Yes. The unit accepts 4.5 to 28 VDC, so it can run from a USB port using the USBC-AM-DC USB 2.0 to barrel connector cable. Lantronix also specifies a 12 VDC, 400 mA wall-mount AC adapter. Power consumption is 3.15 W.
What distance does the M/GE-PSW-SX-01 support?
220 m over 62.5/125 µm multimode fiber and 550 m over 50/125 µm multimode, at 850 nm with a 7.0 dB link budget. For longer runs, the M/GE-PSW-LX-01 reaches 10 km on single-mode fiber at 1310 nm.
Which M/GE-PSW models have LC or ST connectors?
The 1000Base-SX multimode version is offered with SC (M/GE-PSW-SX-01), ST (M/GE-PSW-SX-01(ST)) or LC (M/GE-PSW-SX-01(LC)) connectors. The single-mode M/GE-PSW-LX-01 uses SC, and the M/GE-PSW-SFP-01 takes whatever connector the installed SFP uses.
Is the M/GE-PSW rated for industrial temperatures?
No. It operates from 0°C to 50°C with 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity, which suits offices, IT rooms and other climate-controlled spaces. For cabinets or plants that see temperature extremes, choose a hardened mini media converter instead.
Can I rack-mount M/GE-PSW mini media converters?
Yes. The M-MCR-01 is an 18-slot powered chassis for non-hardened mini converters with 19-inch rack ears, and the RMBM bracket fits the E-MCR-05 rack and RMS19-SA4-02 shelf. WMBM wall and DRBM DIN-rail brackets are also available.
