About the Lantronix xDirect-IAP
The xDirect-IAP (also written xDirect IAP) puts an industrial device server right on the wire. Its housing integrates the serial cable and DB9F connector at one end and a 10/100 Ethernet RJ45 port at the other, so it plugs straight into a PLC, drive, meter or other automation device and connects it to an Ethernet network or the Internet. There is no separate box to mount, which helps in crowded control panels and for temporary or portable connections.
The serial side supports RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 (2- and 4-wire) at 300 bps to 115.2 kbps with DTR, DSR/DCD control and hardware or software flow control. A full IP stack handles TCP, UDP, DHCP, SNMP, HTTP and Telnet, and Modbus TCP, Modbus ASCII and Modbus RTU support lets Modbus TCP masters on Ethernet reach serial Modbus slaves. Protection includes 15 kV ESD on the serial transceivers and 1500 VAC isolation on the Ethernet and PoE paths.
Power comes from 5V on a mini-USB-B jack, 5-15 VDC on DB9 pin 9, or PoE on the PoE model, at 1.3W maximum without PoE. The non-PoE model operates from -40 to 85 C and the PoE model from -40 to 70 C. Configuration uses DeviceInstaller, Telnet or a serial terminal, and Com Port Redirector provides virtual COM ports on Windows.

- One DB9F DCE port supports RS-232, RS-422 and 2- or 4-wire RS-485 at up to 115.2 kbps, covering most PLC and instrument serial ports.
How to choose the right xDirect-IAP part number
There are two xDirect-IAP models, and the choice comes down to power. XDT4851002IA-01-S is the standard model and ships with a 100-240 VAC international power supply with regional adapters; it operates from -40 to 85 C (the supplied adapter itself is rated 0 to 40 C). XDT10P0IA-01-S is the PoE model, powered from the Ethernet cable with no power supply included, rated -40 to 70 C. Both can also take 5-15 VDC on DB9 pin 9. ACC-520-0180-00 is the replacement 5VDC mini-USB-B supply.

Yes. The xDirect-IAP supports Modbus TCP, Modbus ASCII and Modbus RTU, so Modbus TCP hosts on Ethernet can communicate with Modbus RTU or ASCII devices on its serial port. Lantronix publishes a Modbus Protocol User Guide for configuration.
