About the Lantronix EDS3000PS
The EDS3000PS (also written EDS 3000PS) connects serial-port equipment to an IP network so it can be reached, configured and monitored remotely. Lantronix describes it as a hybrid Ethernet terminal server and multiport device server: it can give administrators console access to networking equipment, or let applications talk to edge devices such as medical equipment, POS terminals and security systems. The plastic desktop or wall-mount housing is designed for visible locations such as clinical areas.
Hardware is built on a Cortex-A9 CPU with 512 MB flash and 512 MB RAM and a 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet port. The 8 or 16 RJ-45 serial ports run from 300 baud to 230 Kbaud with 7 or 8 data bits, hardware or software flow control and CTS, RTS, DTR and DCD modem signals. Security includes SSHv2, TLS 1.0 through 1.3, AES, RSA, DSA and ECDSA keys, password protection and IP address filtering.
Configuration uses a Cisco-like CLI, a web manager, SNMP v1/v2/v3 or the Windows-based Lantronix Provisioning Manager, and the unit is manageable from Percepxion. Firmware updates through the web manager, FTP or the serial port. ComPort Redirector and Secure ComPort Redirector present the remote ports as local COM ports, so existing applications work without code changes.

How to choose the right EDS3000PS part number
There are two base models. EDS3008PS1NS has 8 RJ-45 serial ports and EDS3016PS1NS has 16; both have one Gigabit Ethernet port, 100-240 VAC input and a North American power cord. The 16-port unit is taller (6 cm versus 4.3 cm) and heavier. To connect devices, pick the RJ-45 adapter that matches the device connector and role: DB9 or DB25, male or female, DTE (200.2069A, 200.2070A, 200.2067A, 200.2066A) or DCE (200.2071, 200.2072, 200.2073). RJ-45 cables come in 2, 5 and 15 m lengths.
