About the Lantronix F-SM-MM-02
The F-SM-MM-02 (also searched as FSMMM02) solves a common plant problem: equipment with multimode optics needs to reach a site that is only served by single-mode fiber, or a multimode run is too long. The converter takes a 1300 nm multimode SC link on one side and retransmits it on 1310 nm single-mode SC on the other, stretching the reach from 2 km to 20 km.
Because it converts at the optical level, it is not tied to Ethernet. Lantronix states that distance can be extended for any networking protocol between 100 Mbps and 155 Mbps that uses 1300 nm transmission. The multimode side has an 11.0 dB link budget and the single-mode side 16.0 dB. Link Pass Through forwards a link loss on one side to the other so attached equipment sees the fault, and Automatic Link Restoration brings the path back when the fiber recovers. Separate LEDs show multimode and single-mode link status.
The unit measures 76 x 119 x 25 mm and draws 3.1 W from an external 12 VDC wall-mount supply on 120-240 VAC. It operates from 0°C to 50°C at up to 10,000 ft. It can sit on a desk or mount on a wall or DIN rail with brackets, or in a media converter shelf or rack.
