Overview
About the Lantronix M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD
Most media converters need a power adapter or terminal-block supply at the installation point. The M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD removes that requirement: it is an IEEE 802.3af Class 1 powered device that takes power over the same RJ-45 cable that carries its data. Connect it to a PoE switch port and it converts that copper link to fiber, which simplifies installs in ceilings, poles and enclosures without an outlet.
The copper port runs 10/100/1000Base-T with auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX, and the fiber side is an open 100/1000Base-X SFP slot, so multimode, single-mode or long-reach optics can be fitted to suit the run. The converter draws 1.8 W, within its Class 1 range of 0.44 to 3.84 W. It operates from -40°C to +75°C and stores from -40°C to +85°C.
The housing measures 46 x 85 x 22 mm and weighs 0.18 kg, with a DIN-rail clip and Velcro included and a WMBM wall bracket offered separately. Active Link Pass Through, fixed full-duplex fiber and 10,240-byte jumbo frames are supported. Searchers may also see the part written as MGE-ISW-SFP-01-PD, without the slash.
Key capabilities
- Powered by 802.3af PoE
- The converter takes its power from the RJ-45 data port as an IEEE 802.3af Class 1 device, so no adapter or local outlet is needed.
- Open SFP slot
- An empty 100/1000Base-X SFP slot accepts the module that fits the fiber type, wavelength and distance of each run.
- Hardened temperature range
- Operates from -40°C to +75°C with 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity, for cabinets and enclosures exposed to temperature extremes.
- Low 1.8 W draw
- Consumption of 1.8 W fits well within a PoE port's budget and leaves switch power for other devices.
- DIN-rail ready
- A DIN-rail clip and Velcro are included, and the 46 x 85 x 22 mm housing fits tight spaces.
How to choose the right M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD part number
This family has a single converter part number, M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD, a PoE-powered hardened mini converter from 10/100/1000Base-T to an open 100/1000Base-X SFP slot. Choose the SFP module separately to set fiber type and reach. The only listed accessory is the WMBM 3.3-inch wall mount bracket, which fits all mini media converters; a DIN-rail clip is already included.

M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD FAQ
How is the M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD powered?
By IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet supplied through its RJ-45 twisted-pair port. It is a Class 1 powered device (0.44 to 3.84 W) and draws 1.8 W, so it needs a PoE-capable switch port or midspan injector on the copper side.
Can the M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD provide PoE to other devices?
No. It is a powered device (PD), not a power source. It consumes PoE on its RJ-45 port to run itself and converts that copper link to fiber through its SFP slot.
Does it include an SFP module?
No. The 100/1000Base-X SFP slot ships open, so you install a module matched to your fiber type, wavelength and distance. The slot supports 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps fiber links.
What is the operating temperature of the M/GE-ISW-SFP-01-PD?
-40°C to +75°C, with storage from -40°C to +85°C, 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity and altitude up to 10,000 ft. Certifications listed are FCC Class A, CISPR22/EN55022 Class A, EN55024 and CE Mark.
