Lantronix S3220 Series Managed Gigabit Ethernet NIDs
The S3220 Series is a stand-alone, remotely managed Network Interface Device that converts Gigabit copper to fiber at the customer edge, with IEEE 802.3ah Link OAM for carrier Ethernet and mobile backhaul links.

About the Lantronix S3220 Series
The S3220 (Lantronix ION S3220) is more than a media converter. It marks the demarcation point between a provider's fiber and the customer's 10/100/1000 copper equipment, and lets the operator see and test that link remotely. It can be managed on its own IP address or in-band over the fiber from a C3220 card in a managed ION chassis, so a remote unit needs no separate management connection.
Carrier features include MEF 9, 14 and 21 certification, IEEE 802.3ah Link OAM, remote loopback, Far-End-Fault and transparent link pass through. Traffic handling covers 802.1Q VLANs and double tagging with 4096 VIDs, 802.1p, DiffServ and IPv6 traffic class QoS, bandwidth profiling, and frames up to 10,240 bytes. DMI optical management reports SFP diagnostics, and copper ports have cable diagnostics.
Management is via web, CLI over Telnet or SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Lantronix Focal Point and a USB port for initial setup, with RADIUS, management VLAN and SNTP. The 82 x 165 x 25 mm unit runs from an external 100-240 VAC adapter at 0°C to +50°C, and the S3221-1040-T extends that to -40°C to +65°C.

How to choose the right S3220 Series part number
All models have one 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 port. S3220-1014 has fixed 1000Base-LX 1310 nm single-mode optics on SC connectors for 10 km links with a 10.5 dB budget. S3220-1040 has one open 100/1000Base-X SFP slot, so distance and fiber type follow the SFP you install. S3221-1040 has two open SFP slots. S3221-1040-T is the same dual-SFP unit rated -40°C to +65°C. Mount with WMBL wall brackets, the WMBD DIN-rail bracket or the RMS19-SA4-02 4-slot rack shelf.

What is the difference between the S3220 and S3230?
Both are stand-alone managed Gigabit NIDs with 802.3ah Link OAM and MEF 9, 14 and 21 certification. The S3230 adds IEEE 802.1ag Service OAM and ITU Y.1731 performance monitoring for SLA assurance, and pairs with the C3230 card instead of the C3220.
How is the S3220 managed remotely?
Two modes are selectable: IP-based management on its own IP address, or in-band management over the fiber from a C3220 card installed in a managed ION chassis. Web, CLI, SSH, Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and Focal Point are supported.
Which S3220 model works in extreme temperatures?
The S3221-1040-T, a dual-SFP model, operates from -40°C to +65°C and stores from -40°C to +85°C. The other S3220 models operate from 0°C to +50°C and store from -25°C to +85°C.
What fiber distance does the S3220-1014 reach?
The S3220-1014 uses 1000Base-LX 1310 nm single-mode optics with SC connectors and reaches 10 km (6.2 miles) with a 10.5 dB link budget. SFP-slot models reach whatever distance the installed SFP supports.
Does the S3220 support VLAN double tagging?
Yes. It supports IEEE 802.1Q VLANs and double VLAN tagging (Q-in-Q) with 4096 VIDs, plus management VLAN. Lantronix publishes guides for configuring provider S-tags, C-tags and T-tags.
