The S4110-4848 is a stand-alone, protocol-independent fiber-to-fiber converter and 3R repeater with two open SFP+ slots, used for multimode to single-mode conversion, CWDM wavelength conversion and link extension at 1 to 11.5 Gbps.

About the Lantronix S4110-4848
Sometimes the problem is not copper versus fiber but one fiber type versus another: a multimode run meeting a single-mode backbone, a link that needs a specific CWDM wavelength, or a span that needs regeneration. The S4110-4848 (the stand-alone counterpart of the ION C4110-4848 slide-in card) handles these cases with two open SFP+ slots, and it is often searched simply as the S4110. You fit a pair of SFP or SFP+ modules, one for each side, and the converter passes the signal between them.
It is protocol transparent across 1 to 11.5 Gbps, covering 10 Gigabit LAN and WAN, Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel at 1, 2, 4, 8 and 10G, and SONET OC-48 and OC-192. It operates any-rate to same-rate, so both ports run at the selected rate, set with four DIP switches. 3R signal regeneration reamplifies, reshapes and retimes the signal, and there is no frame size limit. Transmission distance depends on the SFP modules and fiber used. The converter draws 4.2 W from a 12 VDC adapter and operates from 0 to 50 C.

How to choose the right S4110-4848 part number
S4110-4848 is the single stand-alone model: two empty SFP+ slots, any-rate to same-rate from 1 to 11.5 Gbps. All optical characteristics come from the modules you install, so buy two SFP or SFP+ modules matched to each side of the link, for example a multimode SR optic on one port and a single-mode LR or CWDM optic on the other, both at the same data rate. For chassis installations the same function is available as the C4110-4848 ION slide-in card. Mounting options include WMBL, WMBD and the RMS19-SA4-02 shelf.

Can the S4110-4848 convert between different data rates?
No. It is an any-rate to same-rate converter: it supports any rate from 1 to 11.5 Gbps, but both ports run at the same selected rate. Four of its eight DIP switches select the operational data rate.
