About the Lantronix S6120 Series
The S6120 (Lantronix ION S6120) is a stand-alone DS1 multiplexer for extending T1, E1 or J1 circuits and an Ethernet connection over fiber. Use it where copper T1 runs are too long or noisy, or where TDM voice and data need to share fiber with a LAN link. Each unit has four RJ-48 ports, one RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet port and one fiber port. The S6120 must be used in pairs; when the far end is a C6120 card in a managed ION chassis, the stand-alone unit is managed in-band over the fiber.
Copper ports run at 1.544 Mbps for T1/J1 or 2.048 Mbps for E1 and reach up to 1.5 km on RJ-48 cabling. Switch settings control line code, line build out, loopbacks and Alarm Indication Signal. Local and remote loopbacks, loopback via test set, and status LEDs support circuit testing. The unit complies with ANSI T1.102, T1.403, ITU G.703, G.823, ETSI 300-166 and AT&T Pub 62411. The SFP version also accepts CWDM SFPs to add capacity on existing fiber.
The S6120 runs on 12 VDC through a barrel connector from a 100-240 VAC UL listed supply, drawing 6 W maximum. It operates from -10°C to 65°C. Status LEDs cover power, port status, loopback and AIS, and Lantronix rates MTBF at 114,580 hours (Bellcore). The enclosure measures 94 x 165 x 46 mm.

How to choose the right S6120 Series part number
Every S6120 has four RJ-48 DS1 ports and a 10/100 RJ-45 port; the suffix sets the fiber interface. S6120-1013 uses 1300 nm multimode SC fiber for up to 2 km (11.0 dB budget). S6120-1014 uses 1310 nm single-mode SC for up to 20 km (16.0 dB). S6120-1040 has an empty SFP slot (100Base-X/OC-3) for other distances, single-fiber or CWDM optics. Order units in matched pairs, or pair with a C6120 card. SPS-2460-SA is a compatible power supply and WMBL a wall-mount bracket.

Yes. The S6120 must be used in pairs, either two S6120 units or an S6120 linked to a C6120 card in an ION chassis. The C6120 pairing enables in-band management over the fiber.
How far can the S6120 extend T1 or E1 over fiber?
S6120-1013 reaches 2 km on 1300 nm multimode and S6120-1014 reaches 20 km on 1310 nm single-mode. The SFP model S6120-1040 distance depends on the module. RJ-48 copper runs reach 1.5 km.
Does the S6120 support E1 and J1 as well as T1?
