The S6210 Series is a stand-alone managed media converter that extends DS3/T3 or E3 circuits from 75 ohm BNC coax onto multimode or single-mode fiber, for carriers and enterprises still running TDM services.

About the Lantronix S6210 Series
The S6210 (Lantronix ION S6210) solves the short reach of coax-based DS3/T3 and E3 circuits. Each unit takes the transmit and receive BNC pair from a TDM device and carries the signal over fiber, so a T3 handoff can reach another floor, building or site. Converters work in pairs, one at each end of the fiber. A switch sets each unit for DS3/T3 at 44.7 Mbps or E3 at 34.4 Mbps.
Fixed-optic models run 1300 nm multimode to 2 km or 1310 nm single-mode to 20 km on SC connectors. The SFP model takes standard 100Base-X/OC-3 SFPs with LC connectors, including CWDM SFPs to add capacity on existing fiber, and supports dual or single fiber. Built-in AIS, coax line build out, and coax and fiber loopbacks support circuit testing, with jitter tolerance to G.823 and loss of signal to G.755.
When the remote S6210 links to a C6210 card in a managed ION chassis, it is managed in-band over the fiber with SNMP and remote firmware upgrades. The 82 x 165 x 25 mm unit draws 2.4 W from a 100-240 VAC adapter, operates from -10°C to +65°C and mounts on a wall, DIN rail or rack shelf.

How to choose the right S6210 Series part number
All three models have two 75 ohm BNC coax connectors (transmit and receive) and differ in optics. S6210-3013 uses 1300 nm multimode fiber on SC connectors for up to 2 km with an 11.0 dB link budget. S6210-3014 uses 1310 nm single-mode on SC for up to 20 km with a 16.0 dB budget. S6210-3040 has an empty SFP slot for 100Base-X/OC-3 SFPs, including CWDM and single-fiber types. Order converters in pairs. For mounting, use WMBL or WMBD brackets, the RMS19-SA4-02 shelf or the E-MCR-05 12-slot rack.

S6210 Series FAQ
Does the S6210 have to be used in pairs?
Yes. Lantronix states the S6210 DS3-T3/E3 converters must be used in pairs, one at each end of the fiber. Alternatively, the remote S6210 can link to a C6210 card in an ION chassis for in-band management.
How far can the S6210 extend a DS3 circuit over fiber?
The S6210-3013 reaches 2 km on 1300 nm multimode fiber and the S6210-3014 reaches 20 km on 1310 nm single-mode fiber. The S6210-3040 reach depends on the 100Base-X/OC-3 SFP you install.
Does the S6210 support E3 as well as DS3/T3?
