Overview

About the Lantronix SDSTX3110-121S-LRT

The SDSTX3110-121S-LRT (also searched as SDSTX3110) puts a single serial device, such as a controller, meter or sensor, on an Ethernet network from inside a crowded control cabinet. Its slim IP30 enclosure is 26 mm wide, and its two 10/100Base-TX ports can be configured to communicate with one server or with multiple redundant servers, so data still reaches a host if one server goes down.

The DB9 male port is software selectable for RS-232, RS-422 or 2- and 4-wire RS-485, at 110 bps to 921 Kbps with full RS-232 modem signals and XON/XOFF, RTS/CTS or DTR/DSR flow control. Operating modes include Virtual COM, serial tunnel, TCP server, TCP client and UDP. HTTPS, SSH and SSL encryption protect management and data, and an IP whitelist limits access.

Power input is 12-48 VDC on redundant inputs with 1.44 W consumption. The unit operates from -40°C to 70°C and is tested for ESD, surge, EFT, free fall, shock and vibration under EN61000-4 and IEC60068-2 standards. Events are reported by syslog, email and SNMP trap.

Key capabilities

RS-232/422/485 on one port
A single DB9 port handles RS-232, RS-422 and 2-wire or 4-wire RS-485, selected in software to suit the attached device.
Dual Ethernet ports
Two 10/100Base-TX ports can talk to one or multiple redundant servers, keeping serial data flowing if a host fails.
-40°C to +70°C rating
Hardened for harsh environments, with shock, vibration and free-fall testing to IEC60068-2 and surge immunity to EN61000-4-5.
Slim 26 mm DIN-rail housing
The IP30 enclosure fits space-constrained cabinets, weighs 0.23 kg and accepts redundant 12-48 VDC power.
Virtual COM or tunneling
COM port redirector software maps the port to a server COM port, or two units tunnel serial data across Ethernet.

How to choose the right SDSTX3110-121S-LRT part number

There is one device server part number, SDSTX3110-121S-LRT: one RS-232/422/485 DB9 male port, two 10/100Base-TX RJ-45 ports, 12-48 VDC redundant input. Two compatible DIN-rail power supplies are listed: the 25135 delivers 24 VDC at 10 W, which covers the 1.44 W draw of a single unit, and the 25130 delivers 48 VDC at 39.8 W for cabinets powering additional devices. Order two units for serial tunneling between sites.

SDSTX3110-121S-LRT FAQ

Which serial interfaces does the SDSTX3110-121S-LRT support?

RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 in 2-wire or 4-wire mode, on a single DB9 male connector. Baud rates range from 110 bps to 921 Kbps, with 7 or 8 data bits, 1, 1.5 or 2 stop bits and odd, even, none or space parity.

What power does the SDSTX3110-121S-LRT need?

12 to 48 VDC on redundant power inputs, with 1.44 W consumption. Lantronix lists the 25135 (24 VDC, 10 W) and 25130 (48 VDC, 39.8 W) DIN-rail supplies as compatible accessories.

Can two SDSTX3110-121S-LRT units tunnel serial data?

Yes. Used in pairs, they provide serial tunneling across an Ethernet network, connecting two serial devices as if they were cabled together. A single unit can also present a virtual COM port to a Windows server through the included COM port redirector.

What is the operating temperature of the SDSTX3110-121S-LRT?

-40°C to 70°C operating and -40°C to 85°C storage, with 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity. The enclosure is IP30 rated, so it belongs in a cabinet or enclosure.
