About the Lantronix SecureBox SDS1101
The SDS1101 (also written SDS 1101; part number SD1101002-11) puts a serial device on an Ethernet network without exposing its data in the clear. It encapsulates serial traffic into packets and encrypts it with a NIST-certified implementation of 128 to 256 bit AES (Rijndael) as specified by FIPS-197. Two SecureBox units on a network form an encrypted serial tunnel across a building or across the Internet, and Lantronix lists medical facilities, government agencies and financial institutions as typical users.
The single DB25F DCE port is software-selectable for RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 (2- and 4-wire) at 300 baud to 230 kbaud, with hardware and software flow control. The network side is 10/100 Ethernet on RJ-45 with 1500 VAC isolation, and the serial port has 15 kV ESD protection. Power is 9-30 VDC or 9-24 VAC on a barrel connector, or 9-30 VDC through the DB25, at 1.5 W maximum.
Encryption is transparent to attached equipment, so no special software is needed. Secure Com Port Redirector creates encrypted virtual COM ports for Windows applications, and modem emulation accepts AT commands to replace dial-up modems and phone lines. Setup runs through DeviceInstaller, a web interface that can be disabled, Telnet, SNMP or the serial port.

The accessories adapt it to your installation: ACC-500-163-R is a DB25M to DB9F serial cable for devices with DB9 ports, ACC-500-171-R breaks the DB25 out to RS-485 and a 9-30 VDC power screw terminal for field wiring, and ACDIN2001-01 adds an optional 35 mm DIN-rail mount to the metal enclosure, which otherwise wall mounts with integrated tabs.
