About the Lantronix SecureBox SDS2101
SecureBox SDS2101 (also written SDS 2101) connects two serial devices to an Ethernet network and encrypts the data as it travels. It uses serial tunneling: serial data is encrypted, packetized and carried over TCP/IP to a host application or to a second SecureBox, which creates secure virtual serial links across a facility or across the Internet. Encryption is transparent to the attached devices and their software, so nothing on the equipment side changes. Lantronix aims it at medical facilities, government agencies and financial institutions.
The AES implementation is NIST certified (AES Cert #120) to FIPS-197, at 128 to 256 bits. Each of the two DB9M DTE ports, pinned like a PC serial port, is software-selectable RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 (2- and 4-wire) from 300 to 921 Kbaud. With Lantronix Secure Com Port Redirector, Windows COM-port applications open encrypted virtual COM connections to the SecureBox. Modem emulation mode accepts AT commands and replaces dial-up modems with encrypted network connections.
The unit runs on 9-30 VDC at 1.8 W maximum, operates from 0 to 60 C and is housed in an IP30 metal enclosure with wall mounts. Setup uses DeviceInstaller, the serial port, Telnet or a web interface that can be disabled for added security.
