Overview
About the Lantronix SM8TAT2SA
The SM8TAT2SA, part of the Lantronix SMTATSA Series, powers and connects up to eight PoE or PoE+ devices from a single desktop or rack-mounted switch, with two dual-speed SFP slots for fiber uplinks back to the core. Its embedded Device Management System (DMS) is aimed at security integrators: it automatically discovers attached IP cameras and access points, lets you configure them remotely, and documents a baseline deployment with topology, floor and map views.
The 130 W PoE budget delivers 30 W to four ports simultaneously or 15.4 W to all eight. Auto Power Reset reboots an unresponsive powered device, and Always-on PoE is supported for devices that must stay powered. Switching capacity is 20 Gbps with an 8K MAC table and 9K jumbo frames. Layer 2 features include 802.1Q VLANs (up to 4K), QinQ, private VLANs, LACP, MSTP/RSTP, IGMP and MLD snooping and 8 QoS queues, with RADIUS, TACACS+, ACLs, DHCP snooping and IP Source Guard for security.
The switch runs from 100-240 VAC with an internal supply, has 6 kV surge protection and operates from 0 °C to 50 °C. It ships with 19-inch rack-mount brackets and a regional power cord. Management is by web, CLI, Telnet and SNMP v1/v2c/v3, and Percepxion can manage it centrally. A version for 52 to 54 VDC power is sold separately as the SM8TAT2SA-DC.
Key capabilities
- 130 W PoE+ budget
- Delivers 30 W to four ports at once or 15.4 W to all eight, enough for a mix of PTZ cameras, fixed cameras and access points.
- Device Management System
- DMS discovers attached powered devices, configures them remotely and shows them in topology, floor and map views for faster commissioning.
- Auto Power Reset
- Detects an unresponsive camera or access point and power-cycles its port automatically, cutting the truck rolls caused by hung devices.
- Dual-speed SFP uplinks
- Two 100/1000 SFP slots accept Fast Ethernet or Gigabit fiber modules for uplinks to distant aggregation switches.
- Fanless, AC-powered
- Internal 100-240 VAC supply, fanless design and 6 kV surge protection suit quiet offices, retail sites and wiring closets.
How to choose the right SM8TAT2SA part number
All SM8TAT2SA part numbers are the same switch with 19-inch rack-mount brackets included; the suffix selects the power cord shipped in the box. SM8TAT2SA-NA includes a North American cord, -EU a European cord, -UK a United Kingdom cord, -JP a Japanese cord, -OZ an Australian cord and -BR a Brazilian cord, while -LA and -SA are listed with South American cords. For DC power plants, choose the separate SM8TAT2SA-DC model instead.

SM8TAT2SA FAQ
How much PoE power does the SM8TAT2SA provide?
The total PoE budget is 130 W. That supports 30 W PoE+ on four ports simultaneously or 15.4 W PoE on all eight ports. The switch complies with IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at, and full-load consumption with PoE is 147 W.
What is the difference between the SM8TAT2SA and the SM8TAT2SA-DC?
Both have eight Gigabit PoE+ ports, two 100/1000 SFP slots, a 130 W PoE budget and the same software. The SM8TAT2SA runs from 100-240 VAC, while the SM8TAT2SA-DC takes +52 to +54 VDC or -52 to -54 VDC input.
Is the SM8TAT2SA a managed switch?
Yes. It is a smart managed Layer 2 switch with web, CLI, Telnet and SNMP v1/v2c/v3 management, 802.1Q VLANs, LACP, MSTP, IGMP snooping, ACLs, RADIUS and TACACS+. It can also be managed centrally through Lantronix Percepxion.
What do the SM8TAT2SA suffixes such as -NA and -EU mean?
The suffix identifies the regional power cord included with the switch, for example -NA for North America, -EU for Europe and -UK for the United Kingdom. The switch hardware and the included 19-inch rack-mount brackets are the same across all versions.
What is the operating temperature of the SM8TAT2SA?
It operates from 0 °C to +50 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. The fanless design suits indoor environments such as offices, retail sites and telecom closets.
