Overview
About the Lantronix SM8TAT2SA-DC
The SM8TAT2SA-DC (also written SM8TAT2SA DC) takes the eight-port PoE+ smart managed switch design and replaces the AC supply with a DC input that accepts +52 to +54 VDC or -52 to -54 VDC. That lets it run directly from telecom-style DC power or a battery-backed DC system, which keeps cameras and access points online when AC power is unreliable or unavailable. It provides 20 Gbps switching capacity and ships with 19-inch rack-mount brackets.
PoE budget is 130 W: 30 W to four ports simultaneously or 15.4 W to all eight, compliant with 802.3af and 802.3at. Auto Power Reset restarts hung powered devices, and the embedded Device Management System discovers attached cameras and access points and presents them in topology, floor and map views. Layer 2 features include 4K 802.1Q VLANs, QinQ, private VLANs, LACP, MSTP/RSTP, IGMP and MLD snooping, 8 QoS queues, RADIUS, TACACS+ and L2/L3/L4 ACLs.
The switch is fanless, weighs 1.0 kg and operates from 0 °C to 50 °C. It shares its web and CLI reference guides with the SMTATSA Series, so configuration is identical to the AC models. The 25104 and 25105 industrial DIN-rail power supplies are listed as compatible accessories.
Key capabilities
- Positive or negative DC
- Accepts +52 to +54 VDC or -52 to -54 VDC input, so the switch can run from telecom DC plants or battery-backed DC systems.
- 130 W PoE+ budget
- Powers four devices at 30 W or eight at 15.4 W, with 140 W total consumption at full PoE load.
- DMS for integrators
- The Device Management System auto-discovers powered devices and maps them in topology, floor and map views for remote configuration.
- Same software as AC model
- Uses the SMTATSA Series web and CLI guides, so VLAN, QoS, LACP and security settings match AC-powered SM8TAT2SA switches.
How to choose the right SM8TAT2SA-DC part number
The series is a single orderable part, SM8TAT2SA-DC, which ships with 19-inch rack-mount brackets and takes +52 to +54 VDC or -52 to -54 VDC input. It is the DC counterpart of the AC-powered SM8TAT2SA, whose suffixes such as -NA or -EU only change the power cord. Fill the two 100/1000 SFP slots with Lantronix SFP modules, add the RMSM8-02 kit for 23-inch racks, and size a DC source such as the 25104 DIN-rail supply against the 140 W full-load draw.

SM8TAT2SA-DC FAQ
What input voltage does the SM8TAT2SA-DC accept?
It accepts +52 to +54 VDC or -52 to -54 VDC. Full-load consumption with PoE is 140 W. Lantronix lists the 25104 DIN-rail supply (85-264 VAC or 124-370 VDC input, 48-55 VDC output at 5.0 A, 240 W) as a compatible accessory.
How many PoE+ ports does the SM8TAT2SA-DC have?
It has eight 10/100/1000 RJ-45 ports with IEEE 802.3at PoE+ and 802.3af PoE, plus two 100/1000 SFP slots. The 130 W budget supports 30 W on four ports or 15.4 W on all eight at once.
Does the SM8TAT2SA-DC differ in features from the AC SM8TAT2SA?
The switching, PoE budget and management software are the same, and both share the SMTATSA Series user guides. The DC model differs in its power input, weighs 1.0 kg versus 2.0 kg, and draws 140 W rather than 147 W at full PoE load.
Is the SM8TAT2SA-DC rack mountable?
Yes. It ships with 19-inch rack-mount brackets, and the RMSM8-02 23-inch rack mount kit is available for 23-inch telecom racks. The chassis measures 220 x 242 x 44 mm.
