Overview
About the Lantronix TN-J915xA Series
The TN-J915xA Series (also written TN-J9150A/TN-J9151A or TNJ9150A) gives HP switch and router owners a choice of short-reach or long-reach 10 Gigabit optics for HP X132 SFP+ ports. Lantronix lists 10G Ethernet switches and routers and metro edge switching as target applications: data center and closet uplinks on multimode, and building-to-building or metro links on single-mode.
TN-J9150A is a 10GBase-SR module at 850 nm on multimode fiber, reaching 300 m on 50/125 OM3 fiber, 82 m on 50/125 fiber with 500 MHz-km bandwidth and 33 m on 62.5/125 fiber with 200 MHz-km bandwidth, with a 4.0 dB link budget. TN-J9151A is a 10GBase-LR module at 1310 nm on single-mode fiber, reaching 10 km with a 9.0 dB budget. Both use duplex LC connectors and SFF-8472 digital diagnostics (DMI).
The modules are compliant with the 10G SFP+ MSA, run from a single 3.3 V supply and fit the standard 13 x 55 x 8 mm SFP+ package. They operate from 0 to 70 C, store from -40 to 85 C, and meet IEEE 802.3ae plus IEC 60825 and FDA 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 laser safety requirements. Both are RoHS compliant.
Key capabilities
- HP X132 compatibility
- Both modules are built as HP-compatible 10GBase SFP+ optics for HP X132 ports in 10G Ethernet switches and routers.
- 300 m on OM3 multimode
- TN-J9150A reaches 300 m over 50/125 OM3 fiber at 850 nm, with shorter reaches of 82 m and 33 m on older multimode grades.
- 10 km on single-mode
- TN-J9151A reaches 10 km at 1310 nm over single-mode fiber with a 9.0 dB link budget, covering campus and metro spans.
- SFF-8472 diagnostics
- SFF-8472 digital diagnostics (DMI) let host switches report module and optical status for monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Standard SFP+ form factor
- SFP+ MSA compliance, a duplex LC connector and a single 3.3 V supply in a 13 x 55 x 8 mm package fit standard SFP+ ports.
How to choose the right TN-J915xA Series part number
Choose by fiber type and distance. TN-J9150A is 10GBase-SR for multimode fiber at 850 nm: 300 m on OM3 50/125, 82 m on 500 MHz-km 50/125 and 33 m on 200 MHz-km 62.5/125, with a 4.0 dB link budget. TN-J9151A is 10GBase-LR for single-mode fiber at 1310 nm, reaching 10 km with a 9.0 dB link budget. Both have duplex LC connectors and DMI. Use matching module types at both ends of each link.
