Overview

About the Lantronix TN-SFP-10G-xR Series

The TN-SFP-10G-xR family (TN-SFP-10G-SR, -LR, -ER and -ZR) gives 10 Gigabit switches and routers a matched set of optics, from short in-rack and in-building runs to long metro links. Every module uses a duplex LC connector, follows the SFP+ MSA, runs from a single 3.3 V supply and includes SFF-8472 digital diagnostics (DMI), so link power and module health can be read from the host. Lantronix describes the series as Cisco compatible and lists 10G Ethernet switches, routers and metro edge switching as the target applications.

Reach is set by the variant. TN-SFP-10G-SR uses 850 nm over multimode fiber, reaching 300 m on 50/125 OM3/OM4, 82 m on 500 MHz-km 50/125 fiber and 33 m on 62.5/125 fiber, with a 4.0 dB link budget. TN-SFP-10G-LR runs 1310 nm single-mode to 10 km (9.0 dB). At 1550 nm, TN-SFP-10G-ER reaches 40 km (15.8 dB), TN-SFP-10G-ZR 80 km (24.0 dB) and TN-SFP-10G-ZR-10 100 km (26.0 dB). Modules are compliant with IEEE 802.3ae, operate from 0 °C to 70 °C and are RoHS compliant.

Key capabilities

300 m to 100 km
Five optical variants span multimode SR at 300 m on OM3/OM4 to single-mode ZR at 100 km with a 26.0 dB link budget.
DMI on every module
SFF-8472 digital diagnostics let the host switch monitor optical power and module status, simplifying troubleshooting on long 10G links.
IEEE 802.3ae compliant
Modules meet IEEE 802.3ae 10GBase-SR/LR requirements and the SFP+ MSA, using a duplex LC connector and a single 3.3 V supply.
Cisco compatible
Lantronix markets the TN-SFP-10G-xR Series as Cisco compatible 10GBase SFP+ modules for 10G switches and routers.
20-packs for rollouts
SR and LR are also offered in packs of 20 (TN-SFP-10G-SR-PK, TN-SFP-10G-LR-PK) for data center and campus deployments.

How to choose the right TN-SFP-10G-xR Series part number

Pick by fiber type and distance. TN-SFP-10G-SR is the multimode option (850 nm) for runs up to 300 m on OM3/OM4. For single-mode, TN-SFP-10G-LR covers 10 km at 1310 nm, TN-SFP-10G-ER covers 40 km at 1550 nm, TN-SFP-10G-ZR covers 80 km and TN-SFP-10G-ZR-10 extends to 100 km. The -PK versions, TN-SFP-10G-SR-PK and TN-SFP-10G-LR-PK, are packs of 20 of the same module. TN-SFP-10G-SR and TN-SFP-10G-LR are UL Listed.

TN-SFP-10G-xR Series FAQ

How far does the TN-SFP-10G-SR reach on multimode fiber?

Up to 300 m on 50/125 OM3/OM4 multimode fiber, 82 m on 50/125 µm fiber with 500 MHz-km modal bandwidth, and 33 m on 62.5/125 µm fiber with 200 MHz-km bandwidth, all at 850 nm with a 4.0 dB link budget.

What is the difference between TN-SFP-10G-ZR and TN-SFP-10G-ZR-10?

Both are 10GBase-ZR single-mode modules at 1550 nm with DMI. TN-SFP-10G-ZR is rated for 80 km with a 24.0 dB link budget, while TN-SFP-10G-ZR-10 is rated for 100 km with a 26.0 dB budget.

Are TN-SFP-10G-xR modules Cisco compatible?

Lantronix markets the series as Cisco compatible 10GBase SFP+ modules. They comply with the SFP+ MSA and IEEE 802.3ae and are intended for 10G Ethernet switches, routers and metro edge switching.

Do TN-SFP-10G-xR transceivers support digital diagnostics?

Yes. Every module in the series, from TN-SFP-10G-SR to TN-SFP-10G-ZR-10, supports SFF-8472 digital diagnostic monitoring (DMI), which reports parameters such as optical power and temperature to compatible host equipment.

What is the operating temperature of the TN-SFP-10G-xR Series?

The modules operate from 0 °C to 70 °C and can be stored from -40 °C to 85 °C. They run from a single +3.3 V supply and measure 13 x 55 x 8 mm.
