Overview

About the Lantronix TN-GLC-LH-SM Series

This family covers 1000Base-LX: Gigabit Ethernet over 1310 nm single-mode fiber with a duplex LC connector. Lantronix lists the modules as Cisco compatible, for Gigabit SFP ports on switches and routers that take a GLC-LH-SM or GLC-LH-SMD type optic, the Cisco-style names these TN- part numbers mirror. Every model draws 0.66 W from a 3.3V host supply, and all share the standard 13 x 55 x 8 mm SFP body.

Two reaches are offered. The 10 km models have a 10.5 dB link budget, suited to campus and building-to-building runs. The LHX models stretch to 40 km with a 22.0 dB budget. Models ending in D or RGD add DMI digital diagnostics so the host can monitor the optic. Standard modules operate from 0 to 70 C; the RGD versions, TN-GLC-LX-SM-RGD and TN-GLC-LHX-SM-RGD, are rated -40 to 85 C for outdoor cabinets and industrial switches. Several SKUs are UL listed, and the series meets IEC-60825 and FDA 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 laser safety requirements.

Key capabilities

10 km or 40 km
Choose 10 km models with a 10.5 dB link budget or LHX models reaching 40 km with a 22.0 dB budget, all on 1310 nm single-mode fiber.
Cisco compatible
Lantronix lists the TN-GLC-LH-SM Series as Cisco compatible Gigabit SFP modules for 1000Base-LX single-mode links with duplex LC connectors.
Optional DMI
TN-GLC-LH-SMD and the RGD models add digital diagnostic monitoring, letting the host switch report on the optic's condition.
Rugged -40 to 85 C
RGD models operate from -40 to 85 C and store to 100 C, for hardened switches and outdoor or industrial enclosures.
Low 0.66 W draw
Each module consumes 0.66 W from a single 3.3V supply, keeping thermal load low in dense or fanless switches.
20-packs for rollouts
TN-GLC-LH-SM-PK and TN-GLC-LH-SMD-PK each bundle 20 identical modules, convenient for large switch rollouts and keeping spare optics on hand.

How to choose the right TN-GLC-LH-SM Series part number

Read the suffixes to pick a model. TN-GLC-LH-SM is the base 10 km optic without diagnostics; TN-GLC-LH-SMD adds DMI. LHX means 40 km: TN-GLC-LHX-SM. RGD means extended -40 to 85 C temperature with DMI: TN-GLC-LX-SM-RGD (10 km) and TN-GLC-LHX-SM-RGD (40 km). A -PK ending, as in TN-GLC-LH-SM-PK or TN-GLC-LH-SMD-PK, is a pack of 20 identical modules. Match reach to the fiber loss budget, choose DMI if your switch monitors optics, and choose RGD for unconditioned locations.

TN-GLC-LH-SM Series FAQ

Is the TN-GLC-LH-SM compatible with Cisco GLC-LH-SM ports?

Lantronix describes the TN-GLC-LH-SM Series as Cisco compatible Gigabit SFP modules. They implement 1000Base-LX at 1310 nm over single-mode fiber with duplex LC connectors and run from a 3.3V host supply.

What is the difference between TN-GLC-LH-SM and TN-GLC-LH-SMD?

Both are 10 km 1000Base-LX single-mode optics with a 10.5 dB link budget and are UL listed. TN-GLC-LH-SMD adds DMI digital diagnostics; TN-GLC-LH-SM has no diagnostics.

Which TN-GLC model reaches 40 km?

The LHX models: TN-GLC-LHX-SM for standard 0 to 70 C use and TN-GLC-LHX-SM-RGD for -40 to 85 C with DMI. Both use 1310 nm single-mode with a 22.0 dB link budget.

What temperature range do the RGD SFP modules support?

TN-GLC-LX-SM-RGD and TN-GLC-LHX-SM-RGD operate from -40 to 85 C and store from -40 to 100 C. Standard models in the series operate from 0 to 70 C and store from -40 to 85 C.

How many modules are in TN-GLC-LH-SM-PK?

TN-GLC-LH-SM-PK is a pack of 20 TN-GLC-LH-SM modules, and TN-GLC-LH-SMD-PK is a pack of 20 TN-GLC-LH-SMD modules with DMI. The optics are identical to the single-unit versions.
