Overview
About the Lantronix TN-SFP-GE-x Series
The TN-SFP-GE-x Series (also written TN-SFP-GE, with part numbers TN-SFP-GE-S and TN-SFP-GE-L) covers the two standard Gigabit fiber link types, multimode SX and single-mode LX, in a hardened temperature grade. Where standard commercial optics stop at 0 °C or 70 °C, these modules operate across -40 °C to +85 °C, so they suit SFP ports in hardened switches, media converters and equipment in unconditioned cabinets. Lantronix describes the family as hardened Cisco compatible Gigabit SFP modules.
TN-SFP-GE-S is 1000Base-SX at 850 nm over multimode fiber, reaching 220 m on 62.5/125 µm and 550 m on 50/125 µm with an 8.5 dB link budget. TN-SFP-GE-L is 1000Base-LX at 1310 nm over single-mode fiber to 10 km with a 10.5 dB budget. Both use a duplex LC connector, include DMI diagnostics, draw 0.66 W at 3.3 V and measure 13 x 55 x 8 mm. Both are UL Listed. Lantronix also lists a related TN-SFP-GE-x-C Series.
Key capabilities
- -40 °C to +85 °C
- Every module in the series is rated for the full industrial operating range, matching hardened switches deployed outdoors or on factory floors.
- Multimode or single-mode
- Choose 1000Base-SX multimode to 550 m or 1000Base-LX single-mode to 10 km, both on duplex LC connectors.
- DMI diagnostics
- Built-in digital diagnostics let the host switch read module data, making it easier to spot degrading fiber links in remote cabinets.
- UL Listed
- TN-SFP-GE-S, TN-SFP-GE-L and the TN-SFP-GE-L-PK pack are UL Listed and certified to IEC 60825 and FDA 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 laser safety.
- Low 0.66 W draw
- Each module consumes 0.66 W from a 3.3 V supply, keeping heat low in sealed or fanless enclosures.
How to choose the right TN-SFP-GE-x Series part number
Choose by fiber type. TN-SFP-GE-S is the 850 nm multimode module for 220 m on 62.5/125 µm or 550 m on 50/125 µm fiber, with an 8.5 dB link budget. TN-SFP-GE-L is the 1310 nm single-mode module for links up to 10 km, with a 10.5 dB link budget. TN-SFP-GE-L-PK is a pack of 20 TN-SFP-GE-L modules for larger rollouts. All three share the -40 °C to +85 °C rating, LC connectors and DMI; all three are also listed as TAA compliant.

TN-SFP-GE-x Series FAQ
What temperature range do TN-SFP-GE-x SFPs support?
All TN-SFP-GE-x modules operate from -40 °C to +85 °C. That hardened rating is the main difference from commercial-temperature Gigabit SFPs and makes them suitable for outdoor cabinets and industrial switches.
What is the difference between TN-SFP-GE-S and TN-SFP-GE-L?
TN-SFP-GE-S is 1000Base-SX at 850 nm for multimode fiber, reaching 220 m on 62.5/125 µm and 550 m on 50/125 µm. TN-SFP-GE-L is 1000Base-LX at 1310 nm for single-mode fiber, reaching 10 km. Both use LC connectors and include DMI.
Are TN-SFP-GE-x modules Cisco compatible?
Lantronix describes the TN-SFP-GE-x Series as hardened Cisco compatible Gigabit SFP modules. They follow IEEE 802.3 1000Base-X and use a standard SFP form factor measuring 13 x 55 x 8 mm.
What is TN-SFP-GE-L-PK?
TN-SFP-GE-L-PK is a pack of 20 TN-SFP-GE-L modules: 1000Base-LX 1310 nm single-mode SFPs with LC connectors, DMI and a 10 km reach, UL Listed, for projects that need many identical optics.
