About the Lantronix xDirect
xDirect (also written XDirect; part numbers start with XDT) is a compact in-line device server that connects one serial device to Ethernet with no rack, DIN rail or separate enclosure. It plugs straight onto the equipment's serial port through a DCE-pinned DB9 female connector and presents the data over a 10/100 RJ-45 port, using a full IP stack and built-in web server for configuration from a PC, phone or tablet. Lantronix cites its use in a hospital IoT project linking bedside monitoring equipment to the network.
The serial port runs from 300 bps to 921.6 Kbps with CTS/RTS or XON/XOFF flow control. xDirect232 is RS232 only, while xDirect485 and the PoE model add RS422 and 2- or 4-wire RS485. Data can be secured with 128, 192 or 256-bit AES encryption. Power comes from 5 V at a mini-USB-B jack, 5-15 VDC on DB9 pin 9, or 802.3af PoE on the PoE model, with 1.3 W maximum draw (2.0 W with PoE). The serial port has 15 kV ESD protection and the Ethernet port 1500 VAC isolation.
Non-PoE models operate from -40°C to 85°C and the PoE model from -40°C to 70°C; the included AC adapter is rated 0°C to 40°C. Configuration is via web browser, Telnet or serial terminal, and Com Port Redirector software presents the unit as a virtual COM port to Windows applications.

Pick by serial standard and power source. XDT2321002-01-S (xDirect232) supports RS232 only and ships with a 100-240 VAC international power supply and regional adapters. XDT4851002-01-S (xDirect485) adds RS422 and 2- or 4-wire RS485, also with the international supply. XDT10P0-01-S (xDirect PoE) supports RS232/422/485, is powered by 802.3af PoE and ships without a power supply. The ACC-520-0180-00 5 VDC mini-USB-B adapter with four regional plugs is available as a spare or for the PoE model.

What is the difference between xDirect232, xDirect485 and xDirect PoE?
xDirect232 (XDT2321002-01-S) supports RS232. xDirect485 (XDT4851002-01-S) supports RS232, RS422 and 2- or 4-wire RS485. xDirect PoE (XDT10P0-01-S) supports all three standards and draws power from 802.3af PoE.
How is the xDirect powered?
With 5 V at the mini-USB-B jack, 5-15 VDC on pin 9 of the DB9 connector, or PoE on the PoE model. Maximum consumption is 1.3 W without PoE and 2.0 W with PoE.
What is the maximum serial speed of the xDirect?
