About the Lantronix C2220 Series
The C2220 Series (Lantronix ION C2220) is a managed Network Interface Device (NID) module for the Lantronix ION chassis. It sits at the demarcation between a service provider's fiber and a customer's copper Ethernet. Where a plain media converter only translates media, the C2220 lets the operator monitor and control the link: it supports IEEE 802.3ah Link OAM, remote loopback and Far-End-Fault, and is MEF 9, 14 and 21 certified for Carrier Ethernet services.
Each card has one 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 port and one 100Base-FX fiber port. Service features include 802.1Q VLAN and double tagging across 4096 VIDs, 802.1p QoS classification, bandwidth profiling, a management VLAN, 10,240-byte jumbo frames and an 8K MAC table. Diagnostics include DMI optical monitoring, copper cable diagnostics and per-port RMON counters.
The C2220 can be managed on its own IP address or by the ION Management Module in a managed ION chassis. A remote unit can also be managed in-band by its local peer. Interfaces include web, CLI, Telnet, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and Focal Point, with RADIUS, DHCP client, SNTP and TFTP, plus a USB port for basic setup. The card draws 4.5 W.

How to choose the right C2220 Series part number
Both C2220 cards have a 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 port; they differ on the fiber side. C2220-1014 has fixed 100Base-FX 1310 nm single-mode SC optics rated 20 km (12.4 mi) with a 16.0 dB link budget. C2220-1040 has an empty 100Base-X SFP slot for multimode, longer-reach, single-fiber or CWDM SFPs. Pick the 1014 for a standard 20 km single-mode run, and the 1040 when the far end or fiber plant needs a specific optic.

What is the difference between the C2220 and a regular media converter?
The C2220 is a managed NID. Beyond copper-to-fiber conversion, it offers 802.3ah Link OAM, remote loopback, VLAN tagging, QoS, bandwidth profiling and IP-based management, and it is MEF 9, 14 and 21 certified.
What fiber speed does the C2220 use?
The fiber port is 100Base-FX (100 Mbps). The copper port is 10/100/1000Base-T. C2220-1014 reaches 20 km on single-mode fiber. The C2220-1040 accepts an SFP of your choice.
How is the C2220 managed?
Individually via its own IP address, in-band by a local peer, or through the ION Management Module in a managed ION chassis. Web, CLI, Telnet, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and Focal Point are supported.
Does the C2220 support Q-in-Q?
