About the Lantronix C6010 Series
The ION C6010 (also written C-6010) is a T1/E1 network interface device module for carrying 1.544 Mbit/s T1 or 2.048 Mbit/s E1 circuits, including ISDN PRI, beyond the reach of copper. It slides into a managed ION chassis at a central site and links over fiber to an S6010 stand-alone converter at the remote location. The converters must always be used in pairs, one at each end of the fiber link.
The copper side is an RJ-48 twisted-pair port, rated to 1.5 km, and is switch selectable for T1 or E1. Fiber options are 1300 nm multimode SC to 2 km with a 12.0 dB budget (C6010-1013), 1310 nm single-mode SC to 20 km with 16.0 dB (C6010-1014), or an open SFP slot (C6010-1040) that takes standard 100Base-X/OC-3 SFPs, including single-fiber and CWDM optics to add capacity to existing fiber. The module complies with ANSI T1.102, T1.408, ITU G.703, G.823 and ETSI 300-166 among other standards.
With an ION chassis and management module, the C6010 supports SNMP, remote in-band management of the far-end stand-alone unit by its local peer, local or remote copper and fiber loopbacks, and remote firmware upgrades. Front-panel LEDs show power and copper and fiber signal detect. Each module draws 2.6 W and operates from 0°C to 50°C, depending on the chassis.

All C6010 modules have an RJ-48 T1/E1 port and fit a managed ION chassis; the suffix sets the fiber side. C6010-1013 is 1300 nm multimode SC to 2 km, 12.0 dB. C6010-1014 is 1310 nm single-mode SC to 20 km, 16.0 dB. C6010-1040 has an empty SFP slot for 100Base-X/OC-3 SFPs, including single-fiber and CWDM types. Every link needs a matching converter at the far end, typically an S6010 stand-alone, with compatible optics.

Does the C6010 need a converter at the other end?
Yes. T1/E1 converters must be used in pairs, one at each end of the fiber. A typical installation pairs a C6010 card in a central managed ION chassis with an S6010 stand-alone converter at the remote site.
Can the C6010 carry E1 as well as T1?
Yes. It is switch selectable for T1 at 1.544 Mbit/s or E1 at 2.048 Mbit/s, and it complies with ITU G.703, G.823, ETSI 300-166 and related E1 standards as well as ANSI T1 standards. It can also extend PRI connections.
How far can the C6010 extend a T1 line?
Up to 2 km over multimode fiber with the C6010-1013, or 20 km over single-mode fiber with the C6010-1014. The C6010-1040 reach depends on the SFP installed. The RJ-48 copper side is rated to 1.5 km.
What SFPs work in the C6010-1040?
Standard 100Base-X/OC-3 SFPs with LC connectors. Lantronix states the series supports dual or single fiber, multimode and single-mode at a variety of distances, and CWDM SFPs to increase fiber capacity.
