About the Lantronix EDS5000 Series
The EDS5000 Series (also written EDS 5000), made up of the EDS5008, EDS5016 and EDS5032, is Lantronix's next-generation multiport serial-to-Ethernet device server. It gathers many serial devices in one rack or equipment room onto the network for remote access and management. Lantronix cites a hospital deployment in which multiport device server technology connected up to 60 ICU patient monitors to a central network.
Each model has RJ-45 serial ports at 2400 baud to 921.6 Kbaud with full modem control signals. Four ports on every model are software-selectable RS-232, RS-422 or 2- and 4-wire RS-485, and the rest are RS-232. A combo uplink accepts 10/100/1000 copper or a 100/1000 SFP module, so the unit can sit on fiber directly. Security includes TLS 1.2 and 1.3, SSH, AES-128/256 data encryption, RSA up to 4096-bit, IP address filtering and SNMP v3. IPv4 and IPv6 are supported.
Power inputs are redundant: 100-240 VAC via an IEC cord, 24-48 VDC, or both, at 20 W. The IP30 1U chassis rack- or desktop-mounts and operates from -10°C to +60°C. Configuration is via web manager, CLI, SNMP, XML, the Windows Lantronix Provisioning Manager, or the Percepxion platform for telemetry, firmware updates and remote access.

How to choose the right EDS5000 Series part number
The last two digits give the serial port count. EDS5008 has 8 ports (4 multi-protocol RS-232/422/485 plus 4 RS-232 only), EDS5016 has 16 (4 multi-protocol plus 12 RS-232) and EDS5032 has 32 (4 multi-protocol plus 28 RS-232). All three include a Gigabit copper/SFP combo uplink, an RJ-45 console port and 100-240 VAC input. Choose by the number of serial devices and how many need RS-422 or RS-485. For DC-powered sites, the 25131 is a 48 VDC, 76.8 W DIN-rail supply.

How many RS-485 ports does the EDS5000 have?
Every model has four ports that are software-selectable for RS-232, RS-422 or 2- and 4-wire RS-485. The remaining ports on the EDS5016 and EDS5032 are RS-232 only.
Can the EDS5000 connect to the network over fiber?
Yes. The Ethernet port is a combo port that accepts either a 10/100/1000 copper RJ-45 connection or a 100/1000 SFP module. This lets the device server connect directly to a fiber network without a separate media converter.
What power options does the EDS5000 support?
Redundant inputs for 100-240 VAC via an IEC cord and 24-48 VDC. You can connect AC, DC or both. Power consumption is 20 W. Lantronix lists a 48 VDC DIN-rail supply, the 25131, as a compatible accessory.
What is the EDS5000 operating temperature?
