Overview

About the Lantronix SISPM1040-3000-L3 Series

The SISPM1040-3000-L3 Series covers two rack-mount hardened switches, the SISPM1040-3166-L3 and SISPM1040-3248-L3 (often searched as SISPM1040-3166 and SISPM1040-3248), that combine PoE+ edge ports with 10G fiber uplinks and Layer 3 routing. They target smart city, utility, transportation and security deployments where cameras and sensors sit in cabinets exposed to wide temperature swings, and they operate from -40°C to +75°C at altitudes up to 10,000 ft.

Both models use non-blocking store-and-forward switching with a 32K MAC table. The 3166 has 16 PoE+ ports, four 100/1000 SFP slots, two 1G/10G SFP+ slots and an 80 Gbps backplane; the 3248 has 24 PoE+ ports, four SFP slots, four SFP+ slots and 136 Gbps. Routing covers IPv4/IPv6 static routes, RIP v1/v2 and OSPF v2/v3. Ring resilience comes from ITU-T G.8032 ERPS, G.8031 ELPS, Rapid Ring and MRP. Power input is 52-57 VDC dual terminal block or single 100-240 VAC; PoE power is not available when running on the AC supply.

Management options include web, CLI, SSH and SNMP v1/v2c/v3, with HTTPS/TLS, RADIUS and TACACS+. The Device Management System adds topology, floor and map views plus cable diagnostics, and Lantronix ConsoleFlow provides cloud control with zero-touch provisioning and iOS and Android apps. IEEE 1588v2 PTP and NTP support timing-sensitive systems.

Key capabilities

Layer 3 routing
IPv4/IPv6 static routing plus RIP v1/v2 and OSPF v2/v3 dynamic routing let the switch route between camera, sensor and management subnets at the edge.
10G SFP+ uplinks
Two (3166) or four (3248) 1G/10GBase-X SFP+ slots, in addition to four 100/1000 SFP slots, carry aggregated video back to the core.
-40°C to +75°C rated
Hardened for outdoor and indoor cabinets, with 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity and operation up to 10,000 ft altitude.
Ring protection
ITU-T G.8032 ERPS, G.8031 ELPS, Rapid Ring and Media Redundancy Protocol keep ring and linear topologies recovering quickly after a fiber cut.
Up to 370 W PoE+
250 W on the 16-port model and 370 W on the 24-port model, with PoE scheduling, power delay, Auto Power Reset and Always on PoE.
Precision timing
IEEE 1588v2 PTP and NTP support timing-sensitive applications such as utility and transportation systems. Both models also provide sFlow and RMON groups 1, 2, 3 and 9.

How to choose the right SISPM1040-3000-L3 Series part number

The middle digits set the port mix. SISPM1040-3166-L3 has 16 PoE+ ports, four SFP and two SFP+ slots with a 250 W budget; SISPM1040-3248-L3 has 24 PoE+ ports, four SFP and four SFP+ slots with 370 W. The suffix picks the AC cord: -NA, -LA, -EU, -UK, -SA (South Africa), -JP, -OZ (Australia) or -BR, e.g. SISPM1040-3166-L3-NA or SISPM1040-3248-L3-EU. PoE requires the 52-57 VDC input, so plan a DC supply: the 25104 DIN-rail unit outputs 240 W and the 25160 outputs 480 W at 48-55 VDC.

SISPM1040-3000-L3 Series FAQ

Does the SISPM1040-3000-L3 deliver PoE when powered from AC?

No. Lantronix states PoE power is not available with use of the AC power supply. For PoE, feed the 52-57 VDC dual-input terminal block, for example from a 25104 (240 W) or 25160 (480 W) DIN-rail power supply.

What is the difference between the SISPM1040-3166-L3 and SISPM1040-3248-L3?

The 3166 has 16 PoE+ ports, two 10G SFP+ slots, an 80 Gbps backplane and a 250 W PoE budget. The 3248 has 24 PoE+ ports, four 10G SFP+ slots, 136 Gbps and 370 W. Both include four 100/1000 SFP slots.

Which routing protocols does the SISPM1040-3000-L3 support?

IPv4 and IPv6 static routing, RIP v1/v2 and OSPF v2/v3 dynamic routing, alongside DHCP server, relay and snooping and L2/L3/L4 ACLs. Layer 2 features include MSTP/RSTP, LACP, Q-in-Q and up to 4k VLANs, with ERPS and MRP for rings.

What temperature range is the SISPM1040-3000-L3 rated for?

Lantronix specifies -40°C to +75°C operating temperature, 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity and altitude from 0 to 10,000 ft. That range covers outdoor and indoor cabinets in smart city, utility and transportation deployments.

Can the SISPM1040-3000-L3 be managed from the cloud?

Yes. Lantronix ConsoleFlow provides cloud-based control with zero-touch provisioning and iOS and Android apps. Locally the switch offers web, CLI, SSH and SNMP v1/v2c/v3 management.
