Overview

About the Lantronix TN-GLC-FE-100xX Series

The TN-GLC-FE-100xX Series (individual models such as TN-GLC-FE-100FX and TN-GLC-FE-100LX-RGD) fills 100 Mbps SFP ports. Lantronix lists applications in Fast Ethernet switches and routers, Fiber Channel switch infrastructure, xDSL and metro edge switching. The modules are MSA-compliant and hot-pluggable, and Lantronix notes they can be used in its xFMFF4040-100 optical line converter. They also comply with intermediate-reach SONET OC-3/SDH STM-1 (S-1.1).

Multimode models run at 1300 nm to 2 km with an 8.5 dB link budget. Single-mode models run at 1310 nm to 10 km with a 19.0 dB budget, or to 40 km with 25.0 dB. Commercial versions operate from 0°C to 70°C. The -RGD versions are hardened to -40°C to 85°C, store to 100°C and add DMI digital diagnostics. Modules draw 1.0 W from 3.3 V.

Two commercial part numbers, TN-GLC-FE-100FX and TN-GLC-FE-100LX, are UL Listed. All modules meet IEC-60825 and CFR 1040.10/1040.11 laser safety requirements, comply with IEEE 802.3 and 802.3ah, and measure 13 x 55 x 8 mm. Match the wavelength and fiber type at both ends of the link, since the multimode and single-mode models will not interoperate.

Key capabilities

Hardened RGD versions
The -RGD models operate from -40°C to 85°C and store to 100°C for industrial cabinets and outdoor enclosures.
40 km single-mode option
TN-GLC-FE-100EX-RGD reaches 40 km at 1310 nm with a 25.0 dB link budget for long Fast Ethernet runs.
DMI on RGD models
Digital diagnostics on the hardened models let the host monitor optical and operating values for proactive maintenance.
OC-3/STM-1 compliant
Beyond 100Base-FX, the modules comply with the intermediate-reach SONET OC-3/SDH STM-1 (S-1.1) optical specification for telecom links.
UL Listed options
TN-GLC-FE-100FX and TN-GLC-FE-100LX carry UL listing for projects that require it, in addition to standard laser safety compliance.

How to choose the right TN-GLC-FE-100xX Series part number

Choose by fiber, distance and temperature. Multimode 1300 nm, 2 km: TN-GLC-FE-100FX (UL Listed), TN-GLC-GE-100FX (same optics, no UL listing noted) and TN-GLC-FE-100FX-RGD (hardened with DMI). Single-mode 1310 nm, 10 km: TN-GLC-FE-100LX (UL Listed) or TN-GLC-FE-100LX-RGD (hardened, DMI, listed as TAA compliant). Single-mode 40 km: TN-GLC-FE-100EX-RGD. The -RGD suffix always means -40°C to 85°C with DMI; models without it are 0°C to 70°C without diagnostics.
