Lantronix TN-J48xxC Series HP-Compatible Gigabit SFP Transceivers
The TN-J48xxC Series are HP-compatible Gigabit Ethernet SFP transceivers with duplex LC connectors, offered as a 1000Base-SX multimode module and a 1000Base-LX single-mode module for switch and router fiber ports.
Overview
About the Lantronix TN-J48xxC Series
The TN-J48xxC Series (also written TN-J4858C/TN-J4859C or TNJ4858C) provides the two standard Gigabit fiber optic types in HP-compatible form: short-reach SX for multimode runs inside buildings and long-reach LX for single-mode runs between them. Lantronix lists Gigabit Ethernet switches and routers, Fibre Channel switch infrastructure, xDSL applications and metro edge switching as applications.
TN-J4858C is compliant with 1000Base-SX and runs at 850 nm on multimode fiber, reaching 550 m on 50/125 um fiber and 220 m on 62.5/125 um fiber with a 9.0 dB link budget. TN-J4859C is compliant with 1000Base-LX and runs at 1310 nm on single-mode fiber, reaching 20 km with a 16.0 dB link budget. Both modules are hot-pluggable, use duplex LC connectors and comply with the SFP Multi-Source Agreement and IEEE 802.3z.
Each module runs from a 3.3 V supply in a 13 x 56 x 8 mm package and operates from 0 to 70 C, with storage from -40 to 85 C. Both meet IEC 60825 and FDA 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 laser safety requirements.
Key capabilities
- SX and LX options
- TN-J4858C covers 1000Base-SX multimode links and TN-J4859C covers 1000Base-LX single-mode links, so one family serves in-building and between-building runs.
- 550 m on 50/125 multimode
- TN-J4858C reaches 550 m on 50/125 um fiber and 220 m on 62.5/125 um fiber at 850 nm, with a 9.0 dB budget.
- 20 km on single-mode
- TN-J4859C reaches 20 km at 1310 nm on single-mode fiber with a 16.0 dB link budget for building-to-building and metro spans.
- HP-compatible SFP
- Both modules are offered as HP-compatible SFP optics with duplex LC connectors for Gigabit Ethernet switch and router ports.
- Hot-pluggable MSA design
- SFP Multi-Source Agreement compliance and hot-plug support let modules be swapped without powering down the host switch.
How to choose the right TN-J48xxC Series part number
Choose by fiber type and distance. TN-J4858C is 1000Base-SX at 850 nm for multimode fiber: 550 m on 50/125 um and 220 m on 62.5/125 um, with a 9.0 dB link budget. TN-J4859C is 1000Base-LX at 1310 nm for single-mode fiber, reaching 20 km with a 16.0 dB link budget. Both use duplex LC connectors and operate from 0 to 70 C. Install the same module type at each end of the link; neither part number lists digital diagnostics.
