About the Lantronix TN-USB3 Series
Secure facilities often run fiber to the desk but issue laptops and tablets with no fiber port. The TN-USB3 Series, also sold as the TN-USB3-SX-01 and Scorpion-USB adapter, closes that gap: plug it into a USB 3.0 Type-A port, install the driver, and the computer has a 1000 Mbps fiber connection to a switch. Fiber gives an EMI-secure link where wireless is ruled out for security reasons or copper lacks the bandwidth, distance or security for data-intensive files.
The adapter is bus powered, drawing 2.1 W typical with LC optics, 2.18 W with SC and up to 3.15 W with an SFP module of up to 1 W, so no external supply is needed. Fixed-optic models use 1000Base-SX 850 nm multimode, reaching 220 m on 62.5/125 μm or 550 m on 50/125 μm fiber. The SFP model accepts dual-speed 100/1000 Mbps SFP modules. IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging is supported.
Drivers cover Windows 7 through 11, including Windows 11 ARM64, plus Linux, Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04, and macOS 10.6 to 10.11. The ABS enclosure has a 9-inch pigtail to the USB Type-A connector, and LEDs show USB speed and fiber link speed and activity. The adapter operates from 0°C to 50°C, weighs 0.16 kg and carries FCC Part 15 Class A, EN55032 Class A and CE marks, with MTBF above 5,800,000 hours under Telcordia SR-332.
