Overview
About the Lantronix N-FXE-02B Series
The N-FXE-02B Series (also searched as NFXE-02B) is a Fast Ethernet fiber NIC for PCIe systems. It puts a PC or server directly on a 100Base-FX multimode link, with no external media converter between the workstation and the fiber plant. That is useful where copper runs are too long, in electrically noisy areas, or where a site has standardized on fiber to the desk.
The card complies with IEEE 802.3u and provides up to 200 Mbps full-duplex bandwidth over a PCIe 1.1 x1 slot. Optics are 1300 nm multimode with a 2 km (1.2 mi) reach, available with ST, SC, LC or MT-RJ connectors. Features include 802.3x flow control, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.1p priority, jumbo frames, TCP segmentation offload, MSI and MSI-X interrupts, IPv6, Wake-on-LAN and PXE boot ROM, with UEFI and ACPI support where the platform BIOS allows.
Drivers cover Windows from XP and Server 2003 through Windows 11 and Server 2012, Linux 2.4.x and 2.6.x, and Novell NetWare 5.x and 6.x, with Microsoft certified drivers. Each card ships with a standard bracket attached and a low-profile bracket included, and draws 1.2 W maximum at +3.3 VDC. Operating range is 0°C to 50°C.
Key capabilities
- Four connector choices
- Order the same 100Base-FX card with ST, SC, LC or MT-RJ connectors to match the existing patch panel.
- 2 km multimode reach
- 1300 nm multimode optics reach 2 km (1.2 mi), with a 12.0 dB link budget, or 13.0 dB on the LC model.
- PXE and Wake-on-LAN
- PXE boot ROM for network imaging and Wake-on-LAN power management, plus UEFI support where the platform allows.
- Low-profile ready
- Ships with a standard bracket attached and a low-profile bracket in the box for small form factor chassis.
- Offload and VLAN tagging
- TCP segmentation offload, MSI/MSI-X interrupts, 802.1Q VLAN tagging and jumbo frames reduce host CPU load.
How to choose the right N-FXE-02B Series part number
The four N-FXE-02B part numbers are electrically identical PCIe x1 100Base-FX multimode cards. The middle code names the fiber connector: N-FXE-ST-02B (ST), N-FXE-SC-02B (SC), N-FXE-LC-02B (LC) and N-FXE-MT-02B (MT-RJ). All reach 2 km at 1300 nm. Link budget is 12.0 dB on the ST, SC and MT-RJ versions and 13.0 dB on the LC version. Match the connector on your patch cords or wall outlet to avoid hybrid jumpers.

N-FXE-02B Series FAQ
What distance does the N-FXE-02B support?
Up to 2 km (1.2 mi) over multimode fiber at 1300 nm. Link budget is 12.0 dB for the ST, SC and MT-RJ models and 13.0 dB for the LC model.
Which operating systems support the N-FXE-02B?
Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 and 11, Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2012, Linux 2.4.x and 2.6.x, and Novell NetWare 5.x and 6.x. Microsoft certified drivers are provided for Windows.
Will the N-FXE-02B fit a low-profile PC?
Yes. The card ships with a standard-height bracket attached and a low-profile bracket included. Swap the bracket before installing the card in a low-profile slot. The card itself measures 108 mm deep and 68.5 mm high.
Does the N-FXE-02B support PXE boot?
Yes. It includes a PXE boot ROM and supports Wake-on-LAN. UEFI and ACPI are supported if the platform BIOS supports them. This makes it suitable for network imaging of fiber-connected PCs.
What slot does the N-FXE-02B require?
A PCI Express x1 slot; the card is compliant with PCIe Rev 1.1. It draws 1.2 W maximum from +3.3 VDC. It supports MSI and MSI-X interrupts.
