Lantronix TN-SFP-25G Series 10G/25G SFP28 Transceivers
The TN-SFP-25G Series are SFP28 transceivers with LC connectors for 25G Ethernet, Fibre Channel and 5G eCPRI links, ranging from 100 m multimode to 40 km single-mode and single-fiber BiDi, all with digital diagnostics.
Overview
About the Lantronix TN-SFP-25G Series
The TN-SFP-25G Series (named TN-SFP-xx25G-xR-S on its datasheet, with part numbers such as TN-SFP-25G-SR-S and TN-SFP-10/25G-LR-S) provides optics for SFP28 ports in data center switches and in 5G fronthaul and backhaul equipment. Lantronix markets the series as Cisco-compatible, and the modules are MSA, SFF-8431 and SFF-8472 compliant with DMI. They also comply with 5G eCPRI, which matters for radio access network transport.
Five models cover the common reaches. The SR-S runs 850 nm multimode to 100 m on OM4 or 70 m on OM3. The 10/25G LR-S runs 1310 nm single-mode to 10 km. Both of these also operate at 10G. The ER runs 25GBase-ER at 1310 nm to 40 km with an 18.0 dB budget. The BX40U-I and BX40D-I are a 1270/1310 nm single-fiber BiDi pair reaching 40 km with a 19.0 dB budget.
Power dissipation is under 1.2 W for the SR-S and LR-S and under 2 W for the ER and BX40 models, from a single 3.3 V supply. Standard models operate from 0°C to 70°C; the BX40 -I models are rated -40°C to 85°C. All modules store from -40°C to 85°C and meet IEC-60825 and CFR 1040.10/1040.11 laser safety requirements.
Key capabilities
- 10G/25G dual-rate options
- TN-SFP-25G-SR-S and TN-SFP-10/25G-LR-S comply with both 10GBase-xR and 25GBase-xR, easing migration from 10G to 25G.
- 40 km single-fiber BiDi
- The BX40U-I and BX40D-I pair carries 25G over one single-mode fiber to 40 km, halving fiber use on long runs.
- Hardened BiDi models
- The -I BiDi modules operate from -40°C to 85°C, for 5G transport and other links that terminate in unconditioned equipment locations.
- 5G eCPRI compliant
- The series complies with 5G eCPRI, supporting fronthaul and backhaul links between radio units and baseband equipment.
- TAA-compliant models
- The LR-S, ER and both BX40 modules are listed as TAA compliant for government and public-sector procurement.
How to choose the right TN-SFP-25G Series part number
Choose by fiber and distance. TN-SFP-25G-SR-S is 850 nm multimode, 100 m on OM4 or 70 m on OM3, 10G or 25G. TN-SFP-10/25G-LR-S is 1310 nm single-mode to 10 km at 10G or 25G. TN-SFP-25G-ER is 25G only, 1310 nm duplex single-mode to 40 km. For one fiber, install TN-SFP-25G-BX40U-I (1270 nm transmit) at one end and TN-SFP-25G-BX40D-I (1310 nm transmit) at the other; a U must always pair with a D.

TN-SFP-25G Series FAQ
Do TN-SFP-25G modules work at 10G?
Two of them do. TN-SFP-25G-SR-S and TN-SFP-10/25G-LR-S comply with both 10GBase-xR and 25GBase-xR, so they can run in 10G or 25G ports. TN-SFP-25G-ER and the BX40 BiDi modules are 25G only.
How far does TN-SFP-25G-SR-S reach?
Up to 100 m on 50/125 OM4 multimode fiber and 70 m on 50/125 um OM3, at 850 nm with LC connectors. For longer runs, the LR-S reaches 10 km and the ER and BX40 models reach 40 km on single-mode fiber.
How do I use the TN-SFP-25G-BX40U-I and BX40D-I?
Install them as a pair on one single-mode fiber. The BX40U-I transmits at 1270 nm and receives at 1310 nm; the BX40D-I does the reverse. The link reaches 40 km with a 19.0 dB budget, and both are rated -40°C to 85°C.
Are TN-SFP-25G transceivers Cisco compatible?
Lantronix markets the series as Cisco-compatible 25GBase SFP28 modules. They are also MSA compliant, follow the SFF-8431 and SFF-8472 specifications, and include DMI digital diagnostics for monitoring from the host switch.
