About the Lantronix ION106 Series
The ION106 (also written ION 106) holds up to six ION slide-in modules, the Lantronix platform for converting between fiber and copper RJ-45 equipment across Ethernet and TDM networks. It suits sites that need more than one or two converters but not a full-size shelf: a building entrance, a campus edge, a customer premises or a small central office position. Modules in one ION chassis can pair with modules in another ION chassis or with Lantronix stand-alone converters for an end-to-end fiber link.
Two front bays accept ION 6-slot power supply modules for 100-240 VAC or -21 to -72 VDC and +21 to +72 VDC. One supply powers the chassis and all modules, delivering up to +12 VDC to each slot; a second supply adds instant failover. The chassis draws 10 W, measures 17 x 10 x 1.75 inches and operates from 0°C to 50°C at up to 10,000 ft.
Adding an ION Management Module enables remote configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting of every slide-in card over web, telnet CLI or SNMP using public MIBs. Security options include management VLAN, SSL, SSH, IEEE 802.1X and SNMPv3, and TFTP handles module firmware upgrades and configuration backups from a central point.

How to choose the right ION106 Series part number
Choose by power and management. ION106-A includes one AC supply and ION106-D one DC supply, both unmanaged until you add an IONMM. ION106-AAB adds a second AC supply for redundancy. ION106-AAMB is the complete build: two AC supplies plus an ION Management Module. Upgrade later with IONPS6-A (100-240 VAC) or IONPS6-D (+/-21 to 72 VDC) redundant supplies, IONMM (USB CLI port) or IONMM-232 (RS-232 RJ-45 CLI port) management modules, IONRE6-23 23-inch rack ears and IONFP blank face plates.

Do I need a management module in the ION106 chassis?
No, modules work without it, but Lantronix states an ION Management Module is required to use all chassis features. It connects to the backplane and lets you configure, monitor and troubleshoot each slide-in module remotely.
