About the Lantronix xPico 250
The xPico 250 (also written xPico250; part numbers start with XPC250) lets OEMs add managed Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Ethernet to an industrial or medical product without developing their own wireless stack. It runs either as a network co-processor that offloads all IoT communications from the host microcontroller, or as a wireless microcontroller programmed with the provided SDK. Lantronix cites a point-of-care medical instrument as one design built on it.
Wi-Fi supports 802.11a/b/g up to 54 Mbps and 802.11n (1x1) up to 150 Mbps on 2.4 and 5 GHz, with 20 and 40 MHz channels, antenna diversity, Bluetooth/WLAN coexistence and 802.11r fast roaming. Bluetooth 4.2 covers BR/EDR and Bluetooth LE with GAP, GATT and SPP. The host side offers a TTL UART up to 4 Mbps, USB host and 12 GPIOs, plus 10/100 Ethernet over RMII. TruPort Serial and TruPort Socket handle serial pass-through and multi-connection TCP, UDP or TLS traffic, and concurrent Soft AP plus client mode supports up to 4 Soft AP clients.
InfiniShield adds secure boot, secure FOTA, encrypted configuration and role-based access control. Management runs through Percepxion, REST, MQTT, XML or the built-in web server, and a reference SDK module supports Microsoft Azure integration. Listed type approvals include FCC, IC, EU RED, Japan MIC, China SRRC and AU/NZS.

How to choose the right xPico 250 part number
All xPico 250 modules carry the -02 revision suffix. The digit after XPC250 sets form factor: 1 is the 17 x 25 mm LGA solder-down module, 3 is the 22 x 35.5 mm edge-connector card. The letter before -02 sets packaging. XPC250100B-02 ships on a 250-piece tape and reel and XPC250100S-02 on a 25-piece reel; XPC250300B-02 is the edge card in trays and XPC250300S-02 is a single edge card. The XPC250300EK evaluation kit is the starting point for firmware and RF testing.

What Wi-Fi standards does the xPico 250 support?
IEEE 802.11a/b/g up to 54 Mbps and 802.11n (1x1) up to 150 Mbps on 2.4 and 5 GHz, with 20 and 40 MHz channels, 802.11d/h/i and 802.11r fast roaming. For 802.11ac, Lantronix offers the xPico 270.
What is the difference between the LGA and edge connector xPico 250?
Part numbers starting XPC2501 are the 17 x 25 x 2 mm LGA surface-mount module on tape and reel. XPC2503 parts are the 22 x 35.5 x 2.73 mm edge-connector card supplied in trays or as singles.
Can the xPico 250 act as a Soft AP and client at the same time?
Yes. Concurrent Soft AP plus client mode allows direct wireless access for service tools while staying connected to the site network. The Soft AP accepts up to 5 clients, or up to 4 in concurrent mode.
What voltage does the xPico 250 need?
3.3 VDC input, with a maximum boot-peak current of 600 mA. The same supply requirement applies to the LGA and edge-connector versions, and the module operates from -40°C to +85°C.
How is the xPico 250 managed remotely?
Through the Lantronix Percepxion cloud platform, which provides remote updates and device management, or via REST, MQTT, XML configuration and the internal HTTP/HTTPS web server.
