About the Lantronix C2210 Series
The ION C2210 (also written C-2210) is a media converter card that slides into a Lantronix ION platform chassis, where many copper-to-fiber links can be terminated and managed together. It interfaces 10/100Base-TX copper ports to 100Base-FX fiber and, because it operates at Layer 2 with a 1K MAC table and 512 Kbit frame buffer, it also converts rates so a legacy 10Base-T device can connect to a 100 Mbps fiber link.
Six versions cover the common fiber plants: 1300 nm multimode to 2 km on ST, SC or LC connectors, 1310 nm single-mode to 20 km on SC or LC, and an empty 100Base-X SFP slot. On the copper port, auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX are standard, and Link Pass Through, Far-End-Fault detection, software-controlled pause and Automatic Link Restoration help manage faults. Each card draws 2.5 W from the chassis backplane.
In an ION chassis with an ION Management Module, the C2210 reports link status, speed, duplex, switch settings and fault conditions, and accepts remote commands to power the card on or off, force speed or duplex, and toggle LPT, FEF, pause and Auto-MDI/MDIX. Firmware is field-upgradeable.

All C2210 modules convert 10/100Base-TX to 100 Mbps fiber and fit any ION platform chassis; the suffix selects the optic. C2210-1011 (ST), C2210-1013 (SC) and C2210-1039 (LC) are 1300 nm multimode to 2 km with an 11.0 dB budget. C2210-1014 (SC, 16.0 dB) and C2210-1019 (LC, 17.3 dB) are 1310 nm single-mode to 20 km. C2210-1040 has an empty 100Base-X SFP slot for other wavelengths or distances; order the SFP module separately.

Which chassis does the C2210 module fit?
Lantronix states the C2210 can be used in any ION platform chassis. Its management features, such as status reporting and remote configuration, require an ION chassis with an ION Management Module installed.
Can the C2210 connect a 10 Mbps device to 100Base-FX fiber?
Yes. It operates at Layer 2 and performs rate conversion, so a legacy 10Base-T copper device can connect to a 100Base-FX fiber link. The copper port auto-negotiates or can be forced to 10 or 100 Mbps.
How far does the C2210 reach over fiber?
