About the Lantronix SLC 8000
When a production network goes down, the console port is often the only way back into a switch, router or firewall. The SLC 8000 aggregates those console ports into one secure appliance that administrators reach over Telnet, SSH or an HTML5 web client, with no proprietary software. Lantronix describes the SLC 8000 (also written SLC8000) as the industry's first modular console server: field-swappable 16-port I/O modules let you mix RS-232 RJ45, USB and Ethernet device ports and move from serial to USB console at your own pace.
Each unit has dual 10/100/1000 RJ45 Ethernet and, on SFP models, dual 1 Gb fiber SFP ports with bonding and IP filtering. Device ports run from 300 to 230400 bps with software-reversible pins and Sun break-safe handling, and each port keeps a 256 KB buffer that can log to syslog, NFS, SD card or USB. Security covers SSH v2, TLS 1.0 to 1.3, packet filtering, per-port permissions, LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS+, Kerberos, Active Directory and NIS, plus FIPS 140-2 certified cryptography (Certificate #2398).
For secondary access, the SLC 8000 supports a 56K internal or USB modem and automatic failover and failback to LTE through the Lantronix G520 gateway. It integrates with Lantronix SLP and Server Technology PDUs, supports SNMP v1 to v3, and is managed centrally with Lantronix Percepxion. The chassis is 1U, draws less than 30W and operates from 0 to 50 C.

- FIPS 140-2 cryptography
- FIPS 140-2 compliant cryptography (Certificate #2398), NIST-certified AES, SSH v2 and TLS up to 1.3 for government and regulated deployments.
- Cellular and modem failover
- Automatic failover and failback to LTE via the Lantronix G520, or dial-up through a 56K internal modem, keeps out-of-band access alive during wireline outages.
- AC or DC power
- Choose single or dual 100-240 VAC supplies, or dual -20 to -72 VDC inputs for telecom and DC-powered facilities.
How to choose the right SLC 8000 part number
SLC 8000 part numbers encode the build. After SLC8, the first digit is port type (0 = RJ45, 1 = USB, 2 = mixed RJ45 and USB), the next two are port count (08, 16, 32, 48), then 1 or 2 for single or dual supplies and 2 for AC or 4 for DC. An ending of 01 means no SFP; 11 adds dual SFP uplinks. The S suffix is standard; G marks US-only TAA-compliant builds. SLC80162411S is 16 RJ45 ports, dual DC, with SFP; SLC81482201S is 48 USB ports on dual AC. FRUSB1601, FRRJ451601 and FRETH1601 are field-replaceable 16-port modules.

SLC 8000 FAQ
Can I add USB or more ports to an SLC 8000 after installation?
Yes. The chassis accepts user-swappable 16-port I/O modules: FRRJ451601 for RS-232 RJ45, FRUSB1601 for USB and FRETH1601 for Ethernet. You can expand up to 48 device ports, mix serial and USB, and move from a single to dual power supply with the FR1ACPS01 and FR2ACPS01 supply modules.
What is the difference between SLC 8000 S and G part numbers?
Part numbers ending in S are the standard builds. Those ending in G, such as SLC80162211G and SLC80322401G, are TAA-compliant versions that Lantronix lists as US only. Port count, power and SFP options otherwise follow the same numbering.
Does the SLC 8000 support cellular failover?
Yes. Paired with the Lantronix G520 LTE gateway, the SLC 8000 fails over automatically to cellular when the wireline network goes down and fails back when it returns. Kits G526GP1AS1B01 (US and Canada) and G526GP12SB01 (EMEA) bundle the G520 for SLC use.
What authentication methods does the SLC 8000 console server support?
Remote authentication through LDAP, RADIUS, Kerberos, TACACS+, Active Directory and NIS, plus local username and password. Access can be restricted with per-port user permissions, custom groups and the built-in packet filtering firewall.
What power options and operating temperature does the SLC 8000 have?
AC models accept 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz with single or dual supplies; DC models take dual -20 to -72 VDC inputs. Power consumption is under 30W, and the 1U unit operates from 0 to 50 C at 30 to 90% non-condensing humidity.
